Located in the pretty village of Haverthwaite in the South Lakes, the Lakeland Motor Museum with its popular riverside cafe is a must visit whilst staying in the area, as is a ride on the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Steam Railway. Originally built to transport coal and iron inland from the coast, now a popular tourist attraction where the trains take you through scenic countryside to bustling Bowness-on-Windermere. Families will love a trip to the Lakes Aquarium at nearby Lakeside Newby Bridge or visit the Bobbin Mill at Stott Park to learn all about the industrial heritage of the area. The southern tip of Lake Windermere is just a 10-minute drive away, where you can enjoy a lakeside picnic at Fell Foot, a beautiful National Trust lakeshore park. There are also over 20 different walking routes within easy reach, why not try a different one every day?
Surrounded by beautiful countryside and with easy access links into the heart of The Lakes, there are plenty of fantastic walking opportunities to take advantage of during your stay at Swallowdale. Explore the woodland paths at High Dam, a picturesque tarn that once supplied water to the nearby Stott Park Bobbin Mill. Head to nearby Gummer's How for a small hike with stunning views from the summit or visit some of the nearby nature reserves at Whitbarrow and Rusland Moss, a haven for a wide variety of birds and wildlife. Why not head south to the coast for a change of scene? Enjoy a bracing coastal stroll whilst taking in the beautiful open vistas out to sea, the perfect way to recharge the batteries.
