Discover the heart of Cumbria whilst staying in unrivalled comfort. This family home happily sleeps six guests and two dogs, providing the perfect base for a hiking or biking getaway in the local area.

This a charming barn conversion, located in the heart of the peaceful village of Motherby which itself is surrounded by beautiful countryside. Inside, you'll find delightful accommodation for up to six people and two lucky dogs. On the ground floor is a well-equipped kitchen, handy utility room and a cosy living room with wood burner which opens to a lovely dining area. Also on the ground floor is the first of the two bathrooms whilst up on the first floor are the three lovely bedrooms and a great shower room. As well as all this, Oakdene also has parking for two cars and a small garden area to the rear of the cottage.

The small village of Motherby is tucked away from the main hustle and bustle but still easily accessed from the M6 and A66, making it an ideal base from which to explore your surroundings. There are lots of local footpaths and bridleways to take advantage of straight from the front door. Why not walk to the neighbouring villages of Greystoke or Penruddock, where you can enjoy a meal at the pub before heading back. Enjoy a peaceful walk at nearby Eycott Nature Reserve or venture up Great Mell Fell or Little Mell Fell, both of which can be seen from the cottage. The starting point of the wallk is just a 10-minute drive from the cottage. You'll be rewarded after the climb with stunning panoramic views from the summit.

For those with an interest in local history, spend some time exploring the historic houses at Dalemain and Hutton-in-the-Forest before heading to Lowther Castle, an intriguing facade of a bygone era. Head up nearby Askham Fell for stunning views of Ullswater. If you'd prefer to be closer to the water, why not hire a boat or try some wild swimming? You can always hitch a ride on the stately steamer if you'd rather somebody else did the hard work!

Head inside Oakdene and you're sure to feel right at home. By the main entrance at the rear of the cottage, you'll find useful hooks and a wooden bench, ideal for storing wet coats and muddy boots before continuing further inside. The kitchen is well equipped with an electric oven and hobs, fridge, handy microwave and there's even a dishwasher so there'll be no need to fight over who has to do the washing up! A large utility room houses the freezer and useful washing machine, as well as additional hooks for drying wet clothes.

Down three steps from the hallway is the cosy living room. With an inviting corner sofa and three-seater sofa, it's a lovely room in which to relax after a day out exploring. There's a TV for entertainment in here too. The living room leads on the dining area. Gather round the table and enjoy a delicious home-cooked meal whilst comparing notes on the day's adventures, or spread out your maps and guidebooks to plan tomorrow's.

Also on the ground floor is the first of the cottage's two fantastic bathrooms. Complete with a WC, wash basin and bath with shower over; whether you prefer a long soak in the tub or a refreshing shower, all tastes are catered for here.

Onwards and upwards to the first floor and the three lovely bedrooms. The first room has a king-size bed, perfect for indulging in a long lie in. The second king-size room is just as lovely as the first, with stunning views towards Helvellyn and Striding Edge, as well as Little Mell Fell and Great Mell Fell. The third bedroom is a cosy bunk room. The bunk bed in here has a single on the top with small double as the bottom bunk. Please note, this room can only accommodate a maximum of two people.

Also on the first floor is a great contemporay shower room, with WC, washbasin and shower cubicle.

Outside, there is parking for two cars in the car port behind the cottage (please note, the car port has a max height of 1.85m). There is also a small garden area next to the car port, a delightful spot for a peaceful morning coffee or an evening aperitif.

Our 2nd visit to beautiful Oakdene. It's well furnished and the kitchen had everything we needed. Motherby is nice village, near to Penrith and Ullswater and the A66 is close by but not close enough to be heard. Lovely property in decent location for northern lakes, Keswick and Penrith. Two bathrooms really useful. Be aware that garden is around side of house with no direct access from property.. Excellent cottage, ideal for the surrounding area. Close to Ullswater and Pooley Bridge, less than an hour from Windermere, with Keswick 12 miles and Penrith 7 miles away. Perfect for our little holiday. Comfortable and modern furnishings, a real home from home for anyone. Would recommend to any of my friends looking for a break in the Lakes area.

Oakdene is a beautifully done barn conversion. The area is conveniently situated near Penrith for shopping but also close to Ullswater. Please be aware that the garden is tiny. We couldn't use it because the outdoor furniture was in full sun and the weather was extremely hot when we were there. A parasol is needed. An interesting conversion which is spacious and tastefully decorated. Everything seemed fresh. Sofas most comfortable experienced in rented property. Having three dogs, I really appreciated that they were allowed, as most properties were one or two only.

Really well positioned place near a lot of wonderful walks. We all loved coming back to the cottage, making a meal and reflecting on the day. The cottage has everything you need to be comfortable and was immaculately presented throughout; many thanks for a great holiday.
