There are lots of local footpaths and bridleways to take advantage of straight from the front door. Why not walk to the neighbouring villages of Greystoke or Penruddock, where you can enjoy a meal at the pub before heading back. Enjoy a peaceful walk at nearby Eycott Nature Reserve or venture up Great Mell Fell or Little Mell Fell, both of which can be seen from the cottage. The starting point of the wallk is just a 10-minute drive from the cottage. You'll be rewarded after the climb with stunning panoramic views from the summit.
For those with an interest in local history, spend some time exploring the historic houses at Dalemain and Hutton-in-the-Forest before heading to Lowther Castle, an intriguing facade of a bygone era. Head up nearby Askham Fell for stunning views of Ullswater. If you'd prefer to be closer to the water, why not hire a boat or try some wild swimming? You can always hitch a ride on the stately steamer if you'd rather somebody else did the hard work!
Head inside Oakdene and you're sure to feel right at home. By the main entrance at the rear of the cottage, you'll find useful hooks and a wooden bench, ideal for storing wet coats and muddy boots before continuing further inside. The kitchen is well equipped with an electric oven and hobs, fridge, handy microwave and there's even a dishwasher so there'll be no need to fight over who has to do the washing up! A large utility room houses the freezer and useful washing machine, as well as additional hooks for drying wet clothes.
Down three steps from the hallway is the cosy living room. With an inviting corner sofa and three-seater sofa, it's a lovely room in which to relax after a day out exploring. There's a TV for entertainment in here too. The living room leads on the dining area. Gather round the table and enjoy a delicious home-cooked meal whilst comparing notes on the day's adventures, or spread out your maps and guidebooks to plan tomorrow's.
Also on the ground floor is the first of the cottage's two fantastic bathrooms. Complete with a WC, wash basin and bath with shower over; whether you prefer a long soak in the tub or a refreshing shower, all tastes are catered for here.
