Part of a fantastic development in the friendly village of Backbarrow, this light and spacious apartment is a wonderful base for families and friends exploring the southern part of the Lake District.
Part of a luxury development in the peaceful village of Backbarrow, this is a fantastic modern duplex for six to seven people. The accommodation is laid out over the first and second floors of the building. Inside on the first floor you'll find a sociable open-plan kitchen/living/dining area, along with a bedroom and bathroom. The kitchen is fully fitted with a washer/dryer, dishwasher, separate fridge freezer and microwave, as well as a full convection hob and oven. The dining table can seat six people bench-style or with the option of chairs for four people. The two further bedrooms and a second bathroom are upstairs on the second floor, both double rooms in size; the master bedroom with its super-king bed may be split into two singles on request. Remote control colour televisions are mounted in the lounge and both double bedrooms.
There is also a wonderful private balcony with views over the River Leven which enjoys full morning sunshine, two designated parking spaces and access to a shared lockup for storing bikes.
A tunnel under the road allows you to walk from the apartment into the village. Backbarrow enjoys a position on the banks of the River Leven and clues to this area's industrial heritage can be found all around. The ironworks itself is the site of the oldest ironworks ancient monument in the country, bordered by the River Leven on one side and Haverthwaite Heights to the rear. There are scenic walks from the front door down the river or onto the heights (great if you have a dog) which has stunning views across the Morecambe Bay a short walk away. Follow the river through the village to the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway, built to transport coal and iron inland from the coast, now a popular tourist attraction where the trains take you through scenic countryside to Lakeside, at the south end of Lake Windermere and a boat journey on to bustling Bowness-on-Windermere. Another great attraction on the doorstep is the Lakeland Motor Museum. It makes a fascinating way to spend the day and has an excellent riverside cafe for breakfast and lunch with a view.
Close to the southern tip of Lake Windermere, why not spend a day exploring here? Enjoy a lakeside picnic at Fell Foot, a beautiful National Trust lakeshore park, before visiting The Lakeside Aquarium or the Stott Park Bobbin Mill to learn all about the industrial heritage of the area. Head to nearby Gummer's How for a woodland walk with stunning views from the summit or enjoy a cruise around the lake from Lakeside Pier. For a change of scenery, the southern coast of Cumbria isn't too far away; with its wide horizons and fresh coastal air, it's the perfect place to truly unwind. The beautiful village of Cartmel with a Michelin-starred restaurant and popular racecourse is only 7 miles away, as is the market town of Ulverston, home to the Laurel and Hardy Museum and many independent shops, restaurants and bars.
The stairs lead from the shared entrance on the ground floor up to the duplex apartment, which is laid out over the first and second floors of this modern luxury development.
Head inside the apartment and you'll find the spacious open-plan kitchen/living/dining area. A wonderful sociable space, the modern kitchen is well equipped with an electric oven and ceramic hob, fridge, freezer, handy microwave, De Gusto coffee machine and a dishwasher. There's also a useful washer/dryer should you need to make use of this during your stay. Tucked next to the kitchen is the dining table which has a choice of bench-style seating and chairs, a lovely cosy spot to catch up on the day's events over a home-cooked meal. Light, bright and airy, the living area has stylish sofas - just perfect for relaxing evenings in. There's a Smart TV for entertainment or simply catch up with good book whilst you unwind in sumptuous surroundings.
Accessed via the living area is a fantastic private balcony. Overlooking the River Leven and catching the morning sun, it's the perfect spot for an al fresco breakfast or a peaceful morning coffee whilst watching the world go.
Also on the first floor is the first of the three bedrooms and the family bathroom. The bedroom here is a spacious double room; bright and airy, and with its own TV, it's a lovely space to relax and unwind. The stylish family bathroom on this floor has a WC, wash basin and a bath with a shower over - whether you prefer a relaxing soak in the bath or a refreshing shower, all tastes are catered for.
Onwards and upwards to the second floor. Up here you'll find two further bedrooms, a twin room and a second room with a large king-size bed (this room can also be made up as a twin on request). Both these bedrooms are beautifully presented and have useful storage too. The king room up here also has its own TV. Also on the second floor is a modern shower room, which has a WC, wash basin and shower cubicle.
As well as two designated parking spaces, guests will also have access to a shared lockup for storing bikes. There's a useful hosepipe here too for cleaning off muddy bikes. The grounds immediately surrounding the apartment are landscaped and private to the complex; shared by all residents, it's a lovely area to explore.
