  • A beautiful 17th-century property set on the shores of Derwentwater
  • This cosy and inviting property enjoys stunning views of the Lake District
  • The cottage is a wonderful base for keen walkers discovering the Borrowdale Valley
Property code: OC-SZ061

This property is enviably positioned just steps from the shores of beautiful Derwentwater. Dating from the 17th century, it now provides welcoming accommodation for up to five people and two lucky dogs. It offers, all on one level, a well equipped kitchen, separate dining room, and overlooking the lake, a living room with open fire, as well as three lovely bedrooms and a family bathroom. Outside is parking for two cars. Three gentle steps lead up to the lawned garden and stone flagged verandah. With stunning views immediately onto the lake and fells beyond, this property is certainly not one to be missed.

Nestled in the Borrowdale Valley and with Derwentwater on your doorstep, you’re perfectly placed for spending a day at, in, or on the water. Sit and simply enjoy the ever-changing moods of the lake or use it as a base for walks of all levels. Pack a picnic and try the scenic 10-mile walk around the lake, wild swim, hire a rowing boat or enjoy a trip around the lake or into Keswick on one of the popular launches. Head south from the cottage into the heart of the Borrowdale Valley, one of the most beautiful parts of the Lakes. There are fantastic walking opportunities for all abilities whether you prefer a day on the fell tops or a lower level ramble; serious hikers can tackle Scafell Pike, England's highest mountain, or why not seek out the beautiful Surprise View, with its dreaming views of Derwent Water.

The town of Keswick, with its regular markets, is just 2.5 miles away and is easily accessible by car or on foot along the shores of the lake. There's a handy bus stop outside the cottage too. Indulge in some retail therapy, or treat yourselves to an evening out and take in a film at the local cinema or a show at the renowned Theatre by the Lake. Families will love walking through the town’s cobbled streets, or head to the Lake District Wildlife Park at nearby Bassenthwaite for a fun day out. Whatever you decide to do during your stay, this property will be a welcome home-away-from-home retreat.

With wonderful lake and fell views, an open coal fire and charming original features from the red sandstone windows and original shutters to enormously thick stone walls, this property is sure to delight. The living room has a fantastic open coal fire, perfect for relaxing evenings, and beautiful arched windows with extensive views of the lake and fells. The TV has limited reception due to the remote and mountainous location, so why not embrace a break from technology and catch up with a good book? The kitchen has all the essentials for a self-catering holiday including an electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge/freezer and washing machine; a useful store room also contains a Swedish drying cabinet that's ideal for drying either laundry or wet coats and boots after a day’s walking. The separate dining room is the perfect place for comparing notes on the day's events over a delicious home-cooked meal. Or spread out your maps and guidebooks on the farmhouse-style table and plan tomorrow's adventures.

There are also three lovely bedrooms. The first, a double room, is off the sitting room. It's a lovely bright room thanks to the large dual aspect windows, making it the perfect place to indulge in a long lie in with your morning tea - you are on holiday after all! Next up is the delightful twin room. The two single beds are arranged in an L-shape and there's a handy chest of drawers. Last but by no means least, we have the single bedroom; a lovely cosy room which also has a useful wardrobe and chest of drawers with a dressing table-style mirror. Both the twin bedroom and single room are off the dining room and have those wonderful views of the lake, on a clear day glistening in the sun, to really help you relax and unwind.

The family bathroom has a WC, wash basin and shower.

The property also has parking for two cars beside the cottage and a lovely garden. There's a charming feature verandah with wooden benches. Sit out here and take in those stunning lake views; equally suited to morning coffee or to a drink as the sun goes down. As well as the verandah, there are also lawns to the side and rear of the cottage.

Great location. A bit scruffy and in need of a good tidy up. Adequately equipped. Lucky we had great weather and the location was super. Wouldnt otherwise have been accommodation we'd have been happy to spend long wet days in

Lovely holiday house, would definitely stay again. Location was great as right next to Derwent water so the view each morning was Fab. We even had some dips in the lake followed by a lovely warm fire to warm up. Perfect. The bus stop was right next to the house with regular buses to keswick.

Location is the key for this cottage. Across the road to the lakeside fantastic views and peaceful in the evening. Catch the bus from outside to your hiking destination. Gorgeous little cottage. Fantastic location. Road can be very busy. Cottage needs upgrading to warrant the price. Never seen such dirty and damp carpets in a rental. Sofas grubby. Beds super comfy

This really is a home away from home, it has everything you need and in the perfect location and views are spectacular. The road is very busy from around 6am right through to late evening as its the main way in and out and the bus stop is on both sides of the road. Fantastic location with it's rare waterside location on Derwentwater. We would consider coming back just for this although there are a number of things that could be improved with the cottage. The oven doesn't really work (grill only), it has a very limited and basic kitchen (no cupboard space at all for food). We like to cook. Fantastic location. Love that original features such as wooden shutters have been kept. Modern kitchen and shower room sympathetically added. Lovely walks around Derwent Water. Good places nearby to explore for food and drink. Bus service stops right outside the cottage.

A great cottage in a quiet scenic location. Hard to fault. A private access to the lake, good parking with an electric charge point. Great for a family break or a group of adults, good access to the lake, walks, the local busses, and the launch round the lake.

The property is so well appointed just about everything you need is easily attainable. I would definitely stay again. We had a fantastic time, I thoroughly recommend a stay.
