Upstairs on the first floor, you'll find the two lovely bedrooms, a bunk room and a king-size room with its own en-suite shower room. Rightly popular with locals and visitors alike, Portinscale is sure to delight. The village boasts a friendly pub just around the corner from the cottage, and a fantastic cafe just a 5-minute walk away. There are plenty of lovely picturesque walking opportunities on offer straight from the front door. From lakeside strolls along the shores of Derwentwater to fells such as Catbells and Causey Pike, there's a route for everyone. Keswick is just over a mile's walk away so why not leave the car where it is and head into town on foot. Indulge in some retail therapy, or treat yourselves to an evening out and take in a film at the local cinema or a show at the renowned Theatre by the Lake.

The cottage has a shed for storing bikes, ideal if you like exploring on two wheels. Head to nearby Whinlatter Forest which has three mountain bike trails to choose from (as well as nine woodland walking trails) or cycle through the beautiful Newlands Valley to picturesque Buttermere; with either Newlands Pass or Honister Pass to tackle, you'll have earned some homemade cake or ice cream from the farm cafe when you get to the other side. Whatever you decide you to do during your stay, the cottage will be a welcome home from home to retreat to.

A useful porch is the ideal place for leaving wet coats and muddy boots before continuing inside this lovely cottage. The fully fitted country-style kitchen is well equipped with everything you'll need for a self-catering holiday. There's an electric oven and gas hob, fridge/freezer, microwave and a dishwasher meaning there's no need to fight over who has to do the washing up! There's also a handy washer/dryer in here should you need to make use of that during your stay. Continue through to the living/dining room. Relax on the sofa in front of the wood burner, perfect for cosy evenings in in front of the fire. There's a TV with Freeview and DVD player for entertainment. The dining area has oak furniture and is a great spot for swapping stories on the day's events over a home-cooked meal, or for spreading out maps and guidebooks whilst you plan tomorrow's activities.

Also on the ground floor is handy shower room. In here you'll find a WC, wash basin and power shower, perfect for reinvigorating tired muscles after a day on the fells.

Upstairs on the first floor are the two lovely bedrooms. First up is the master bedroom, which has a pine king-size bed and handy walk-in wardrobe for storage. This bedroom has its own en-suite shower room (with WC, wash basin and shower cubicle), a real treat. The cosy second bedroom has full-size bunk beds, a useful chest of drawers and has views towards Whinlatter.

Outside to the front of the cottage is a delightful patio. With a table and chairs, equally suited to that first morning coffee or an evening apperitif, it's a lovely spot for sitting out and making the most of the spring/summer sunshine. At rear of the cottage is a second sitting area and also a hose to clean muddy pets, as well as a rotary washing line.

Really lovely cottage. Well kept and maintained, perfect for us 2 and our little dog. The local pub is literally a stones throw away, ran by a lovely family for the past 3 years, and is perfect for that end of day refreshment and some lovely home cooked food. Close to Keswick about a 20-30 min walk away. Lots of local walks and marinas nearby too,Read more and of course Derwentwater is right there too. Would definitely stay again. Hide

The cottage was well presented and comfortable. Parking good. A nice quiet lane for our dog to go for evening/morning walk. We had a wonderful time exploring Keswick(a mile walk into town) and the surrounding area. The chalet cafe (10mins) was lovely. The pub we thought was a bit over priced.

Lovely, cosy cottage; I felt it had everything needed. Ideal size for a family with children, not sure about 4 adults. Lone traveller so good size for me. (And dog). Would consider rebooking as it was ideal for me.

Osprey Cotrage was lovely. Lovely and Cosy. Great location. Just take a torch for outside as it gets very dark and can't see steps. Other than that it was lovely and we will definitely stay again. The Farmers Arms just yards away. Food okay, not brilliant but adequate.

A lovely cosy cottage which we have stayed in several times. It is well equipped and always spotlessly clean. Easy walking distance to Keswick and for walking around the lake and nearby fells

Lovely quiet location and good base for exploring the Lake District - we enjoyed walking to the local marina to rent a boat as well as climbing Catbells and visiting local forests. It's a shortish walk (or drive) to Keswick which has plenty of pubs/cafes/shops. The cottage is small but cosy and suited us as a family with two small children. The onlRead morey negatives for us were the fridge is quite small (wouldn't bother most people but we do a lot of home cooking), but overall we had an amazing stay. Hide

Lovely cottage in a quiet location, the small garden is a real sun trap. Although its on the main road through Portinscale once the Saturday arrival traffic jam subsided we hardly heard any vehicles. Would be lovely for a family but the second bedroom is a very tight squeeze for 2 adults.

Very tiny cottage where the tv is NOT a smart one There is no mobile phone reception. Parking even in the lower space is difficult. Any. Car larger than a Honda jazz will be too big because of turning into, swing into..

This cottage is very small, I think you would struggle for any length of time with 4 adults, but fine with 2 children in the bunk room.

This is a small but very comfortable cottage. It would not be suitable for someone with a disability due to the compact nature of the bathrooms. There is a small enclosed garden which captures the sun for most of the day. Ideal for a couple. Good location with plenty of walks available. Pub 30 yards away which serves average food, good selection ofRead more beers. Local cafe a short walk away which is very good. We very much enjoyed our stay and would book again. Hide

It was lovely to stay in Osprey Cottage again. It feels like coming home. Cosy, warm, clean, well-equipped and in the most perfect location for walking in the quiet Northern Fells, but still within a short stroll of Keswick's amenities. Thank you for recommending Keswick Spice. We hadn't eaten there before and we had a really superb meal.
