Hayton is a lovely rural village, perfect for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle but still be within a short drive of both the picturesque Solway Coast, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and the world Heritage Lake District National Park. There is a small village shop, a church and a hairdressers. Head to nearby Allonby, less than a 10-minute drive away, and take a walk along the pebble and sandy beaches here. The wide open vistas and views across the water towards Scotland are sure to blow the cobwebs away! If golf is your bag there are three local clubs including Silloth, one of the top courses in the UK, along with Maryport and Aspatria golf clubs. The Solway Coast is well known for its beautiful sunsets so why not make a flask of hot chocolate and enjoy the view? There are plenty of cycle paths stretching along the coast if you like to explore on two wheels.
Those interested in maritime history should head to the harbour towns of Maryport and Whitehaven, or spend a day in the border city of Carlisle where you can learn all about the area's Roman heritage at the fantastic Tullie House Museum or even visit nearby Hadrian's Wall. For those who'd prefer to indulge in a bit of retail therapy, head to the Georgian market town of Cockermouth with its numerous independent shops, three supermarkets and the National Trust-owned ancestral home of William Wordsworth, or bustling Keswick for a great selection of outdoor and independent shops. If you are more adventurous, climb some of the best peaks in The Lake District. The Lake District Wildlife Park at Bassenthwaite is a fun day out for families and is less than a 20-minute drive away from Castlegate House.

Head up the stairs to the first floor and you'll the four fabulous bedrooms. There are two lovely king-size bedrooms to choose from, one with its own en-suite shower room (with WC, wash basin and large shower), one double room and a delightful twin room that can also be made up as a super-king. Also on the first floor is the family bathroom. As well as the WC and wash basin, there's a bath and a large separate shower so all tastes are catered for, whether you prefer a long soak in the tub or an invigorating shower. Handily tucked away on the landing up here is also a useful study area, ideal for if you have to do a spot of work - or for just writing a postcard or two.
As well as driveway parking for three cars and a large double garage to store bikes/boats/golf clubs etc, there is a large garden with a lawn and patio areas. Out here you will find a gas BBQ, table and chairs, and even a bar area! ideal for dining al fresco in the summer months. Last but certainly not least is the large private hot tub - the perfect way to top off your stay!
