Duddon Bridge sits between Lakeland's south western fells and the Irish Sea. Less visited than some of the more hectic areas of the Lake District, this area boasts some fabulous walking and cycling without the crowds. Why not head up to beautiful Seathwaite and enjoy a riverside walk? Alternatively take a dip in one of the swimming dubs. Stickle Pike makes a rewarding walk, you can even cheat a little and take the snaking narrow road over to Broughton Mills, then you can start the walk half way up! Just up the road is the charming village of Broughton-in-Furness. Set around a Georgian village square with an obelisk at its heart, it boasts award winning pubs with great locally sourced food and real ales, two excellent cafes, a great play park, and a much-loved bakery, grocers and butchers shop.
Beautiful Coniston also lies nearby where you can explore the area's rich culture, take on some mighty Lakeland peaks or just have fun on the water. If you're feeling energetic you can hire a rowing boat or kayak to explore the beaches around the picturesque 5-mile lake. For a more leisurely exploration of the water, why not catch the beautiful Steam Yacht Gondola during the summer months? You could make a day of it and head to Coniston's fascinating Ruskin Museum. There's something there for everyone as its exhibitions cover the worlds of literature, art and the area's water speed record heritage. However you choose to spend your stay, this cottage is a perfect base from which to start.
