  • Offering views out towards Skiddaw, Whinlatter Forest and Walla Crag
  • Just a short stroll from the shore of Derwentwater
Property code: SZ468

The lofty position of this fourth-storey apartment makes for exciting views over the town of Keswick and the surrounding mountains of Borrowdale and the Newlands Valley. From the living room sofa, you can gaze across to Walla Crag and the slate rooftops of the town, whilst the bedroom window looks directly out over Skiddaw, with Whinlatter Forest and Grizedale Pike in your periphery. This really is the perfect holiday cottage if you wish for convenience and a central location, thanks to its position in the heart of Keswick which is just a short stroll away from Derwentwater.

This compact apartment offers all of the amenities of modern living and is comfortably furnished. Everything in the flat is conveniently laid out to make your stay as relaxed as possible; the open-plan living room and kitchen area make for a spacious feel and a cosy sofa, large TV and shelf of books and maps make this a great place to unwind. In the warmer months the small outdoor seating area is ideal for a morning coffee or a glass of wine in the evening, whilst soaking up the scenery.

At the end of your day, you can step across the street to the pubs and bars to enjoy a coffee, glass of wine or selection of tapas dishes. Just a short walk into town and you will find many more delicious menus on offer in a range of independent pubs, restaurants and cafes. The Alhambra Cinema is also a top attraction in the evening.

Whatever you choose to do, the property provides a relaxing and quiet base in the heart of the action.

Enter the open-plan living room, dining and and kitchen area to discover a bright and welcoming space. The living room has a comfortable two-seater sofa which can be made into a sofa bed, large flat-screen Freeview TV , DVD player and Amazon Fire Stick. There are books, DVDs, cards and OS maps of the area available to use - perfect for relaxing and planning the next day's excursions! Next to the living room window is a drop-leaf dining table with two chairs, so you can enjoy the view whilst having your meals.

The compact kitchen is nonetheless fully equipped with electric hob, oven, microwave/grill, toaster, kettle, round sink, a fridge with small freezer compartment (including ice tray) and a washer/dryer. A hob cover gives you that bit of extra surface for food prep.

There is one bedroom with a king-size bed, a bedside table on either side (with lamps) and a coat rail. The large, built-in wardrobe offers plenty of room for hanging clothes and contains an ironing board, iron and hair-dryer. There are also integrated USB charging points in both the bedroom and living room.

The bathroom has a toilet, sink and full-size bath, with electric shower over the bath (slip-mat included).

There are also shared bike rails available. These are shared with the rest of the building and are on a first-come-first-served basis. Please bring your own bike lock. Please note that the apartment is reached via 63 steps up an external concrete stairway with a handrail. You will also have a designated parking space in the car park behind the building, which is a short walk from the property via the street. Large cars may find it difficult to manoeuvre in the space especially when the car park is full.

On first impression of the building we was alarmed and thought we mght have made a mistake. The buildingis is not very attractive. Centrally located apartment with parking space was a real find. Actually didn't use car, as able to hike from apartment, and/or use local buses and boat. Enjoyed the views of the mountains from the apartment. Small but compact accommodation equipped for general needs. Lots of choice of restaurants and kitchen fine to cook in.

Lovely flat right in the centre of Keswick. The views from the flat make climbing the stairs worth it. We definitely hope to stay here again next time we visit Keswick.

This is the second time that I have stayed at The Bird Box, the previous time being only this last January. As long as you are OK walking up the flights of stairs outside, then this really is a perfect little cosy home from home for either a couple or one person, presuming they love the Lakes!! I recommend it highly.
