The cottage has views of Grike and Crag Fell. A cosy and characterful getaway, the property is the ideal location for a family or friends to use as a base to launch into the Lake District. Ennerdale Water is 20 minutes' walk from the cottage and there are walking routes up Grike, Crag Fell and Bowness Knott. A pub and a hotel both serve local ales and great food. A stone's throw from the cottage is a community-owned and run cafe and shop offering excellent coffee, speciality teas, homemade cakes, cookies, sandwiches and soups.
Ennerdale is one of the quietest and most remote valleys in the Lake District. The long deep lake provides a habitat for several rare species. Tall mountains tower over the lake whilst the head of the valley is forested and home to many species including deer, badgers, rare breed Belted Galloway cattle and red squirrels. The property is perfectly located for exploring Ennerdale whilst remaining within scenic driving distance of other Lake District highlights including Cockermouth, Loweswater, Buttermere, Wasdale (with the Scafells and Great Gable) and the Cumbrian coastline. There are plenty of family friendly attractions including the Lake District Wildlife Park near Bassenthwaite, the aquarium and a climbing wall in Maryport, Go Ape at Whinlatter, mine tours and the Via Ferrata at Honister and the Ravenglass to Eskdale narrow gauge railway.
This property is a charming and characterful three bedroom 1850s cottage sleeping up to six guests and two dogs and is located in the peaceful village of Ennerdale Bridge.
Entering the cottage via the front, you will pass underneath an original Victorian patterned glass pane; this charming character is continued throughout the cottage with well-worn flagstones in the hall, original polished pine floorboards, pine doors and panelling. The dining room seats six and is located next to the characterful kitchen.
The kitchen contains an electric oven and four-ring electric hob, microwave, coffee machine, dishwasher and separate under-counter fridge and freezer. Step back into the hallway and a door under the staircase reveals a small utility area containing a washing machine and tumble dryer.
The living room is the largest room in the cottage, with windows to both the front and rear. This room features three sofas (so more than enough room for six guests), Sky TV - (don't forget your Netflix login), DVD player and DVDs, books, board games and a lovely wood burner. Perfect for cosy nights in.
The three bedrooms and family bathroom are located on the first floor. The master bedroom features a king-size iron-framed bed and has views to the mountains beyond; the second room has a twin beds and with views over fields to the River Ehen and on to the village; while the third room has full size bunk beds. There is access to a games room from the twin bedroom with table football and TV to plug in games consoles. This room has low ceilings and reduced head height.
The bathroom contains a traditional roll-top bath, walk-in shower, WC, airing cupboard and wash basin.
Outside, there is a small lawned front garden and a secluded paved yard to the rear, where there is a small garden table and chairs. Beyond this yard is a further rear garden. This lawned garden area is next to the river so care is advised, especially with young children. Red squirrels visit the hazelnut feeders daily. Non designated parking for one car is available on-street directly outside the cottage. There is nearby parking for a second vehicle.
