The apartment is named this holiday property in honour of local legend Alfred Wainwright. Wainwright wrote many books on walking in the Lake District and is best remembered for his pictoral guides to the Lakeland Fells. He wrote about and drew in great detail some 214 fells in seven volumes, copies of which can be found inside the apartment. These fells have since become known as the 'Wainwrights' and many people set themselves the challenge of completing them all - get inspiration by spotting a few of these fells from the apartment itself.
Keswick is a much loved gem of a Lakeland town situated on the shores of picturesque Derwentwater. It's a bustling market town with a wonderful atmosphere where you can indulge your wild side with any number of adventurous outdoor activities or pamper your taste buds with a huge range of eateries offering great local food and Cumbrian real ales. Why not have an early evening dinner then take in a play or concert at the beautifully situated Theatre by the Lake during your stay? It's just a gentle stroll from the apartment, what a perfect way to spend a summer evening. Alternatively enjoy a film at the charming art deco cinema right across the street. You could scarcely be better placed for shopping here with a vast range of outdoor shops, a great choice of independent retailers and even several lovely galleries right on the doorstep.
For the outdoor enthusiasts among you the walking and cycling opportunities are endless. From gentle potters along to the lakeshore to scaling Lake District giants such as Skiddaw, it’s all available straight from the door. For water sports enthusiasts there are several marinas where you can hire all manner of craft for messing about on the water. You could potter down to the lakeshore to catch the Keswick Launch into the jaws of the Borrowdale Valley and take a stroll back rewarding yourself with a pub meal on the way! So for couples or singles with a love of this glorious area then the property makes a marvellous base.
Guests enter the property via an external staircase to the roof terrace. This opens into the main open-plan living space. The shower room is directly to your left, this has a modern suite with a large enclosure and electric shower for soaking away tired muscles.
The main living space has a wonderful open, spacious feel about it with its exposed beams and double height ceiling. There's a comfy soft grey sofa for curling up in front of the cosy wood burner or for relaxing while watching the wall mounted Smart TV. The owners have thoughtfully provided a range of books to inspire your outdoor adventures including some of Alfred Wainwright's Guides to keep you entertained. There's a wooden dining table for two and a lovely wooden window seat from which you can look out to Latrigg, the much-loved little fell just outside Keswick.
The well-equipped modern kitchen area has a double electric oven with four hobs, a slimline dishwasher, fridge/freezer, microwave and all the crockery and cookware you will need for your stay. Why not cook up a romantic meal for two and enjoy it with that lovely view over Keswick's rooftops?
Moving through to the front of the apartment the delightful bedroom looks out onto St John's Street and the town's own art deco cinema, The Alhambra, across the road. You can even see the summit of Catbells in the distance. The room itself is a comfy haven with a romantic metal king-size bedstead, a large built-in wardrobe and a charming decorative fireplace.
Outside the apartment is a roof terrace, perfect for making the most of sunny days. There's a table and two chairs out here where you can look out over Keswick's rooftops to Latrigg while enjoying a morning cuppa or a sunny evening meal.
