An enchanting haven for two guests, set among the fells and valleys of the north-western corner of the Lake District, ideal for exploring Whinlatter Forest, as well as nearby lakes.
Situated in a superb location on Whinlatter Pass, just above the Lorton Valley, this cottage has lovely views of the surrounding fells. It has a wonderful mix of contemporary style blended with original features - perfect for unwinding in after a day out in the Lakes. There is a beautiful wood burner in the open-plan living area, which has open eaves and exposed beams, giving a lovely spacious feel. Outside there is an enclosed garden which boasts views to the local fells of Greystones and Broomfell. There is also storage available for those wishing to bring bikes.
The location of the cottage is within easy reach of the lakes of Buttermere, Crummock and Loweswater and their fells as well as Whinlatter Forest. The options for walking and biking at any level from the door or within a short drive are unlimited. There is plenty to do in the local area with Whinlatter Visitor Centre just a few minutes' drive away. Facilities include a cafe, bike hire, live Osprey nest video camera (May-Aug) as well as the Go-Ape! high ropes course. Cockermouth is a 10-minute drive away and is home to the Jennings Brewery, which runs a tour for any beer lovers, and Wordsworth House, the birth place of the famous Lakeland poet. Keswick is a 15-minute drive away. Here you can enjoy boating on Derwentwater or visit the bustling town centre with its array of shops, museums, and eateries.
For sustenance, a fantastic local pub is just 2 miles away in the village of Lorton. There is also a small village shop with lots of local specialities, and nearby Cockermouth has a supermarket if you need a larger shop.
The main living area is entered to through the porch and is one large open-plan space. This consists of the kitchen area which is very well-equipped for self-catering with a four-ring induction hob, an electric oven, microwave, toaster, kettle, dishwasher and tall fridge/freezer. To the left is a booth-style dining area for four and futher into the room is the living area. Here there is comfortable seating for four in front of the wood burner with a TV and DVD. The windows on this side of the room have views across the yard to Greystones fell beyond.
The stairs then lead down to the lower ground-floor corridor where there is a double bedroom and a dressing room. There is also a modern bathroom which has a shower over the bath. The shower features a luxurious rain head or more invigorating power head.
The garden is enclosed and accessed 2 metres from the door. It is very private and has lovely views to the local fells.
