Once a mill, this cottage is brimming with original features and charm. Cosy up by the wood burner and make the most of your glorious waterside location.
Situated on the banks of the River Cocker just outside Cockermouth, this property sleeps two people and two dogs. With easy access to Buttermere and nearby waterfall. This sensitively refurbished former mill building offers accommodation with stunning views of the picturesque 19th-century stone bridge and river. Whether you spend your time here in the cosy first-floor living areas or on the convenient balcony, you'll be able to enjoy a relaxing holiday that will blow away those cobwebs!
There is no garden at the property but there are a great choice of walks from the door. Including a footpath which leads from the cottage into the lovely market town of Cockermouth (2 miles) and there are numerous pathways into the surrounding countryside. In fact, the national park border lies just over the stone bridge!
The cottage itself is spacious and comfortable with enticing views. In the Lake District, you can bike, hike, climb, swim, or paddle; there's something for everyone in this peaceful area of English Lakeland.
Entry to the cottage is up a set of steps via a covered porch. Up the stairs inside are the living areas, which have a light and airy atmosphere, courtesy of the high vaulted ceilings, skylights and dual aspect windows. Original oak beams create an interesting space that harks back to the mill's historic past.
The living room itself is comfortable and consists of a large two-seater leather settee and a recliner chair. A wood burner sits in a beautiful hearth in the corner of the room next to the TV and DVD player. Leading from the lounge is a door that opens out onto a balcony that overlooks the River Cocker. It's the ideal place for that morning cup of coffee whilst you plan your day or for that evening glass of wine whilst discussing the day's adventures.
Next to the living room is the cosy king-size bedroom, which again has dual aspect windows and a vaulted beamed ceiling.
Also on the first floor is the modern, well-equipped kitchen featuring an electric oven and hob, microwave, dishwasher, fridge, freezer and washer/dryer. There is a breakfast bar that acts as your dining space. This area is separated from the living room by a whitewashed stone wall with a charming interior window, just across the hallway and staircase.
Downstairs there is a bathroom with a bath, wash basin and shower enclosure along with a separate WC.
There is a secure area in which to store bikes and parking for one car to the front the property.
