This cosy and traditional cottage has been brought right into the 21st century with gorgeous modern decor, high-spec fittings and well chosen furnishings. Set right in the heart of the lovely village of Braithwaite and sleeping six people in three beautifully decorated bedrooms, it's a lovely base to explore this gorgeous area.

Sleeping six people in three lovely bedrooms this is an ideal base from which to launch your Lake District adventures. The cottage has been lovingly brought up to date with stylish decor, luxurious furnishings and modern appliances while retaining much of its traditional charm in features such as exposed beams, decorative fireplaces and stone floors.

Braithwaite is a delightful village at the foot of the Newlands Valley, on the edge of Whinlatter Forest Park and close to the shores of Derwentwater and Bassenthwaite Lake. It is perfectly situated for making the most of the fell walking in the area; indeed, you can walk up Barrow, Causey Pike or Grisedale Pike straight from the cottage. There is also a wealth of easier strolling to be had. The village itself boasts three pubs and a restaurant serving good food and local real ales. In fact, guests at the property have a pub right next door and another just a few metres further. There's also a much-loved shop that is a hub for village life just a short stroll away. Whinlatter Forest is an absolute must for visitors with miles of cycling and walking tracks, an excellent cafe, imaginative playpark and a Go Ape high ropes course where you can test your mettle on a series of exhilarating obstacles high up in the forest canopy.

For a taste of local town life then Keswick lies just 2 miles away. It's a bustling market town with independent shops, good pubs, restaurants and cafes. Keswick has its own cinema and the gorgeous Theatre by the Lake not to mention a huge choice of outdoor shops and adventure companies ready to take you out and test your wilder side! Why not explore beautiful Derwentwater either by stately launch or under your own steam in a kayak or rowing boat? Braithwaite really does make the perfect place to launch your adventures or just enjoy what's on the doorstep.

Guests enter at the rear of the property straight into a gorgeous stone-floored kitchen diner. It has been refurbished to a very high standard with modern white units, a fan oven, gas hobs, built-in fridge/freezer and dishwasher. There is an extending dining table in here to make the most of your evening get-togethers.

Moving through to the lounge where guests will find a sumptuously deep sofa and armchair and two further mid-century-style armchairs in which to curl up around the lovely wood burner on chilly evenings. There is a large Smart TV to help you while away the evenings too.

Upstairs to the three bedrooms and bathroom, all of which benefit from subtle decor and wonderful traditional features such as exposed beams and decorative fireplaces. Firstly, the master bedroom has a heavy wooden double bedstead and wardrobe as well as a view out over Braithwaite to fell tops in the distance. The second double has a chest of drawers for storage, a decorative fireplace and yet more great views. The twin room like the others has a gorgeous calming colour scheme and a wardrobe for storage.

The bathroom is a lovely indulgent space with a velux window bringing light into the lovey modern suite with its spa bath, over-bath mixer shower and huge drencher head.

Really lovely little cottage. Perfect for us and two dogs. There are lots of fantastic walks from the cottage and the village is very quaint. The fire was appreciated at the end of a long day as well as the prosecco!! Very close to Keswick and we headed out that way for a day. All in all a lovely little break and we wouldn't hesitate in rebooking.

We had a lovely stay at Orchard Cottage. The cottage is beautifully presented, spotlessly clean and well equipped. A lovely cottage in a great location. We enjoyed a lovely meal at The Royal Oak across the road. Another night we walked up to the Coledale Inn fir a drink. We had everything we needed and we made good use of the kitchen for cooking meals. The bedrooms were lovely and beds comfy. The spa bath was welcome after a long day walking. This is a good centrally located house in a lovely village with three good pubs on hand and a hotel next door we didn't use this time but know that it too has good food. The village shop is really close and well stocked. There are great bus routes from Braithwaite allowing cheap exploration of the lakes as well as good walks from the front door.

Comfortable cottage with superb location for accessing local fells and short drive to Keswick. Very limited parking but plenty of street parking nearby. No private garden so for a family with a dog it meant always having to take him out on a lead. Otherwise we very much enjoyed our stay and would recommend the cottage
