Welcome to this 18th-century gem which has been brought stylishly into the 21st century to accommodate four people in two lovely bedrooms. Warm, comfortable, deceptively spacious and boasting a beautiful mature garden, it's an ideal place for a family or small group to explore this marvellous area. The owners have lovingly restored the cottage using a subtle palette of colours, cosy furnishings and up to date appliances while retaining its character by making the most of some gorgeous original features.
Yanwath lies just outside Penrith close to the Lake District National Park and the Pennines. In fact, from the cottage you can see both Blencathra in the Lakes and the peaks of the Pennines. It's a peaceful area close to picturesque Ullswater while still being very easy to access from the M6. There are multiple walks from the door including along the river Eamont which takes in ancient standing stones and other clues to prehistoric settlements in the area. An absolute must is a visit to Lowther Castle (which is a ruin) and gardens - it's only 2.5 miles away. In the grounds there, children will love the adventure playpark.
The head of Ullswater, widely thought to be one of the most beautiful of the Lakes, is less than 4 miles away. Why not pack a picnic and explore the secluded beaches around the lake shore by hiring a kayak or rowing boat? Alternatively enjoy a gentler view from the water by catching one of the elegant Ullswater Steamers. These stately heritage vessels take a serpentine route around this stunning lake offering glorious views and even an onboard bar. How civilised.
If you'd like to explore town life in the area then you are on the doorstep of the attractive Eden Valley hub of Penrith. There's plenty more of the history of the area to explore here as well as a good mixture of high street and independent shops and restaurants. Alternatively head west to the Lake District's adventure capital Keswick, less than 20 miles away. For the adrenaline junkies among you there's a world of opportunities to test your mettle there and for the more relaxed visitor you'll find a delightful market town with an art deco cinema, a renowned theatre and a wealth of shops and eateries. Visitors to the cottage will find themselves in an ideal place to make the most of this delightful area or just relax in a peaceful haven all of your own.
On arrival at the property, guests can enter via the main door into a large entrance hallway. From here you can drop off any coats and muddy boots from your days out in the large utility room where you'll also find the washing machine and freezer, there is a cloakroom WC here also. The hallway has double doors out onto the back patio where there is seating to enjoy a cuppa in the morning sunshine.
Moving through to the well-equipped new kitchen. It's a light and spacious room with fan oven, ceramic hobs, microwave, under-counter fridge and dishwasher. It's a lovely light space ideal for the foodies among you to cook up a storm! The kitchen leads on to the lovely dining room; this has a gorgeous dining table seating up to six next to a delightful decorative fireplace. Just off the dining room is the delightful sunroom looking out on the mature gardens and benefiting from the evening sun. With two comfy armchairs, it's the perfect place to enjoy a good book and a glass of wine while enjoying the comings and goings of the abundant birdlife visiting the garden.
The living room has been beautifully refurbished while retaining lovely original features such as exposed beams, original stripped wooden doors and an open stone fireplace. Bringing guests right into the 21st century, the room has two leather sofas, a light elegant colour scheme, subtle lighting and a Smart TV with Wi-Fi.
The staircase leading up from the dining room has a window at the top looking out towards the Pennines. From this landing you first arrive at the spacious modern bathroom. It has a large bath and over-bath mixer shower and a lovely light airy feel about it.
The first bedroom you reach is the beautiful master bedroom with king-size bed and two lovely windows looking out onto the gardens. It has a wardrobe and dresser and is elegantly decorated in subtle colours with charming artwork. The twin bedroom along the landing is no less delightful with built-in wardrobes and its own wash basin built into an alcove. This bedroom will be set up as a twin room; if you would like it set up as super-king, please let us know at the time of booking.
