Ullswater is widely thought to be one of the most picturesque places in the Lake District and this is the perfect cottage from which to enjoy all that this gorgeous area has to offer. It’s a cosy terraced cottage welcoming four guests and up to two well-behaved pooches. With a lovely patio area outside to soak up the views towards the mighty Helvellyn range and a cosy built-in wood burner inside around which to curl up in the evening, it really does tick a great many boxes for visitors.

Glenridding is a former mining village on the southern shore of Ullswater boasting several places to eat, outdoor shops, fabulous walking from the door and a jetty for the Ullswater Steamers on the doorstep. For the seasoned mountaineer you could scarcely wish for a better base as the classic route up Helvellyn taking in Swirrel Edge and Striding Edge starts from the village. For guests looking for slightly more sedate walking there are countless options including a family friendly stroll to Lanty’s Tarn and the glorious Aira Force.

Alternatively you can make the most of Ullswater itself by hiring a boat or catching one of the beautifully stately steamers operating throughout the year. Why not take a bike ride around the lake and catch the steamer back home? This cottage is absolutely ideally situated to make the most of this fabulous area.

The entrance to the cottage is via a small courtyard. From here you come in to the kitchen-diner. This is a well-equipped modern kitchen with dishwasher, washing machine, clothes airer, microwave, fridge/freezer, under counter oven and halogen hobs. The glorious view up towards Glenridding Dodd from the kitchen window might even make you offer to do the washing up by hand!

Through from here you'll find the living room. This is a lovely warm room with built in wood burner and two comfy sofas where you can relax after some long Lakeland walks. There is a television, with Freesat and Freeview, a DVD player and a selection of games and puzzles to help you while away your evenings or the odd rainy afternoon. In here you'll also find a large cupboard with space to hide away plenty of coats and muddy boots.

The first room you come to upstairs is normally made up as the master room with super-king bed, this can be made up as two singles according to your party's needs – please let us know upon booking if you would like two singles. This room has a TV with Freeview, a wardrobe, desk and drawers. Upstairs there is also a second bedroom with double bed and a modern shower room with a bidet and vanity unit for storage. There is a step down onto the landing from both bedrooms, which might be something to bear in mind for little ones!

Out of the back door you'll find a lovely patio garden with birdfeeders and a bench looking up to the backdrop of the Helvellyn range. What a magnificent place to sit and enjoy an evening glass of wine or a sunny morning cuppa! There's a shared pathway through the other terrace's gardens taking you through to the parking area. In all, it's a perfect cottage to make the most of this lovely area.

It was great to be honest and just what we expected and no hidden things come to mind. It was how it was explained when I booked it.

Well equipped small cottage close to shops & pubs, and a great place to start several walks. I wouldn't recommend eating at the local pubs, it is very much out of the freezer at rather high prices and zero atmosphere. The local shops are however good. This is probably the first rental in which I have found a pepper grinder. Five stars for that. TheRead more views from the cottage aren't great, but a short walk down to the pier more than makes up for that. Hide

Location of cottage is superb and lots of local walks on the doorstep. Parking spot is a bonus anywhere in the Lakes. Very well equipped, decor a little dated but clean and tidy.

Great location just short walk to lake and local amenities. Cottage has lovely little garden which gets the sun most of the day and was lovely to sit and relax in. Lots of equipment and tea towels cloths and cleaning products, handy having a washing machine as well with a little one. Loved the place, great situation, but the parking space is small. Would have stayed on for the weekend which showed up as available, but asking price was over 600 which was almost what we paid for a week.
