Built in 1898, it retains its Victorian features such as original fireplaces, kitchen flagstones and exposed beams.
Eskdale is a wonderful starting point for hundreds of walks, either on the fells or along the banks of the River Esk, which flows from Scafell at the top of the valley down to the estuary at Ravenglass, an old fishing village complete with a ruined Roman bath-house. The river has natural pools for swimming within a 5 minute walk and is a popular place for canoeing and fishing. Esk View has many walks directly out the door: ranging from short ambles along the Esk trail to the River Esk and Stanley Ghyll waterfall suitable for all ages up to long days up Scafell and Harter Fell
The famous Ravenglass and Eskdale Miniature Railway runs along the valley, its steam trains making the leisurely seven-mile journey down to the sea (15-minute walk to Dalegarth station). There are five pubs in the valley, two of which are a 5-10 minute walk away. All welcome children and serve real ales and a wide choice of good food.
The kitchen is superbly equipped with a double electric cooker, microwave, dishwasher, large fridge and freezer, washing machine, tumble dryer, an iron and ironing board, as well as a small breakfast table. The dining room has a superb 14-foot-long mahogany dining table with an original Victorian fireplace located in the small sitting area to one end of this room. There is a piano, music system, soft seating and two high chairs are also in this area. A selection of board games are kept in the hall cupboard. On the other side of the hallway is the long sitting room which has an original Victorian fireplace with open fire (fuel supplied), comfortable seating at both ends, Smart TV and DVD.
The first-floor bedrooms, all with stunning views to the fells and surrounding crags, consist of two king-size bedrooms, both with en-suite shower rooms and WC. The light and airy triple bedroom with large windows has three single beds and a wash basin. There is a further single bedroom and an additional shower room.
The second floor bedrooms are one double and three twins, all with wash basins, Again with views to the fells or down to the quaint church and the river. There is also a bathroom with bath and a separate shower room on this floor.
To the outside is parking by the property, enclosed border garden and patio with garden furniture. There are 2 acres of natural grassland available at the rear. The views from the garden are spectacular either looking to the crags or down to the river and church.
