This spacious and characterful cottage is ideal for walking enthusiasts and is nestled in a truly breathtaking part of the Lake District National Park. Seatoller is a quaint and idyllic little village that offers peace and solitude as well as direct views of the local fells. You are surrounded by many of the great mountain giants of the area including England's highest mountain, Scafell Pike. The canvas pictures dotted about in the cottage were taken by the owner and show many of the fells that can be climbed from nearby the cottage. There is also great scope for easy half-day walks: Seatoller sits in a lush green valley surrounded by woodland, riverside footpaths and some great low-level summits. This really is a walker's paradise and you will be struck by the grandeur of the area from the moment you arrive.

The cottage itself is comfortably furnished and beautifully decorated with plenty of room for a group of friends or family who want to enjoy a holiday together. The true highlight of the cottage has to be the old barn doors, which have been re-engineered to open up and reveal a large glass front, allowing lots of light into the kitchen and offering expansive views from the downstairs of the building. When you wake up, you can simply open the barn doors and enjoy looking up at Glaramara and Bessy Boot while you eat your breakfast. In the evenings, you can retire to living room, which has plenty to keep you entertained at the end of the day!

Between the beautiful setting, access to a huge array of walking, and proximity to lots of attractions, this is an ideal Lake District holiday cottage.

Please note: the cottage is unable to accept children under 8 years old (including infants).

This beautifully furnished cottage is nestled in the little village of Seatoller, which sits right at the bottom of Honister Pass and is only 20 minutes' drive from Keswick. Shortly after passing Glaramara Outdoor Centre and the National Trust car park, you will see a red phone box to the left of the road and the cottage is directly opposite this. There are two private parking spaces right outside the front door, so it's easy to unload your luggage. To park, it is easier to drive past the property up the hill and the use the turning circle by the bridge and then reverse park into the drive. The large wooden barn doors open up to reveal a glass front, with sliding door.

As you walk in, you step into a carpeted cloak room area, which is slightly elevated above the kitchen, with the two areas being separated by a banister. This space is great for storing outdoor kit and there is ample space to hang coats, rucksacks, walking poles and boots. There is a little bench, so people can sit down to take off their walking boots. A step leads down into a sleek modern kitchen, which is spacious and beautifully decorated. Extensive cupboards run the full length of the kitchen which is fully equipped with everything you might need for dining in with plenty of surface space for preparing food. There is an integrated fridge/freezer, integrated double oven, split with microwave/combi-oven at the top, fan oven at the bottom, electric induction hob, a dishwasher and a kettle and toaster. There is a wall-mounted TV, for those who like to catch up on the news at breakfast time, hung above the dining area. The dining table is plenty big enough for six but can be extended out if needed and there are six chairs. The controls for the two-zone heating are next to the stairs, allowing you to regulate the temperature downstairs.

A corridor leads from the kitchen to a bathroom and bedroom. The bathroom is stylishly decorated and has a bath, a shower (over the bath) with waterfall effect shower-head, a basin with lit mirror (de-misting), a shaver charging socket, heated towel rail and toilet. This bathroom has been very cleverly designed so that it can be either a shared bathroom or en-suite because there are two doors that lead into it and both lock; the door that leads into the bathroom from the corridor can be locked from the inside, which then means that the bathroom can only be accessed from the bedroom. The bedroom is reasonably spacious and has a king-size bed with storage drawers, wall-mounted reading lights, a single wardrobe, two chairs, one in a recessed sitting area, a bench-table for those needing office space and a wall-mounted 32' Smart TV. The main lights can be switched off from the bed side and there are reading lights mounted on the wall, on each side of the bed. A door leads from the bedroom into a utility area, which has a washing machine, tumble dryer, Belfast sink, clothes hanging rail, an iron and an ironing board (there are also hairdryers in both of the king-size bedrooms).

From the kitchen, wooden stairs (with hand-rail) lead up into a spacious living room. This room has a country-cottage feel to it, with its high gable ceiling, large wooden beams, wrought iron lights and large Persian rug. There two comfortable double sofas and two chairs, cupboards full of books, games, OS maps and local guide books and a 42' Smart TV with blue-tooth sound bar. The main living room window offers fantastic views across to Bessy Boot and Thorneythwaite Fells. This is a lovely place to come and unwind at the end of each day and there are dimmer lights to create a low glow in the evenings. The controls for the two-zone heating are next to the door to the hall, allowing you to regulate the temperature upstairs.

A corridor leads from the living room through to a bathroom, twin room and a further king-size room. The sleek modern bathroom is spacious and has a large shower with two shower heads (standard and waterfall effect), a basin with storage drawer, heated towel rail and toilet. There is a very large lit mirror and lots of shelf space for storing wash-bags. Further along the corridor is the twin room, which is small but the high beamed ceiling creates a feeling of space and a window lets plenty of light into the room. There are two single beds, with wall-mounted reading lights, a double wardrobe, draws and chair. At the end of the corridor is the master bedroom. This has a king-size bed, drawers, large wardrobe, bedside table and wall-mounted reading lights on each side of the bed. The room is nicely decorated and a window looks out onto some quaint little National Trust barns. Seatoller Farm next door is a National Trust farm and has a craft shop specialising in locally made products and the owners are always happy to show people around the farm, if asked.

Seatoller has very little light pollution, so make sure to look up at the stars at night! There are barn owls which often nest in the adjoining barn wall and red squirrels love living in Seatoller and the surrounding woods.

We just love the location of this cottage, nestled at the end of Borrowdale. It is fantastic for walking straight from the house. Even during bad weather there's a great view of the mountains from the cottage. The bus services into Keswick and up to Buttermere are very useful.

As two families with two 5 year olds we had a super week exploring the northern lakes from the Barn. The beds were comfy, the kitchen was well stocked and the location gave us the perfect sense of being away from the busy-ness of the popular towns, but with so many local walks on our doorstep.

Our first trip to the Lakes and definitely not our last! The Barn is a great location and the views are fabulous. We have provided some improvements feedback to the owners privately but in all, a good family property.
