Stay in comfort and luxury in the glorious Lake District National Park, with fells and lakes poised for adventure close by and a home-from-home property to return to at the end of each day.
This is beautifully located cottage for up to five people, right in the heart of Eskdale, set amidst 3 acres of sheep fields and woodlands. It has a large peaceful garden visited by local wildlife and there are extensive views of Eskdale from the cottage.
Many period features have been retained including the wonderful staircase, cast-iron fireplaces and pretty stained glass in the windows. There is a warm and homey kitchen, finished to a high standard with a range cooker and a wood burner for colder days. The sitting room has windows on three sides to take advantage of the stunning views of the valley and a wood burner. There are three good-sized bedrooms and a bathroom with luxurious underfloor heating.
Eskdale is a tranquil valley, virtually untouched by modern development. There is plenty of fell walking right from the door of the cottage. Choose from hikes on the high fells such as Scafell or along the banks of the River Esk, which flows from the top of the valley down to the estuary at Ravenglass. Bankside overlooks The Green station, just a 2-minute walk away, one of the stops on the narrow gauge Ravenglass and Eskdale steam railway that runs through the valley all the way to the sea.
There are five pubs in the valley, the nearest being just a short walk down the road. Children are welcome and it serves real ales and a wide choice of good food. The village shop is close by and sells a comprehensive range of groceries and local produce.
The side door to the cottage is under a sheltered porch. This opens into the boot room and the adjacent utility room that has a washer, a dryer, sink and space for hanging wet weather gear to dry.
Off the boot room is the spacious and well-proportioned kitchen with designer units, larder store cupboard, integral fridge and freezer, dishwasher and a Range cooker with gas hob, electric oven and built in microwave. There is a handy island unit to provide an extra work surface and more storage. There is also a table with bench and chair seating, positioned next to the cosy wood burner.
The sitting room has a wood burner (initial supply of logs and further supplies can be purchased) and comfortable seating is arranged around the wood burner, TV, DVD player and PlayStation. This room benefits from three windows all offering fabulous views to the fells and surrounding countryside. The original stained glass in the windows is a lovely period feature in this room.
There is an additional shower room downstairs with walk in shower, WC and wash basin.
An inner hallway has a superb decorative staircase leading to the first floor bedrooms and bathroom. The main bedroom has been tastefully and comfortably furnished, featuring beautiful fell views from the three windows. There is a king-size bed and a tiled feature fireplace.
The second bedroom has a zip-and-link bed which can be made up as super-king or twin (it will be made up as a super-king unless otherwise requested). This room also has a feature fireplace and is furnished with a chest of drawers and a wardrobe. The third bedroom has a double bed and fitted wardrobe.
Also on the first floor is the bathroom that has been finished to a high standard with a freestanding bath, separate shower cubicle, WC wash basin and large heated towel rail. There is a lovely wooden floor with luxurious underfloor heating.
Outside, the garden extends all the way around the property. The cottage is in an elevated position and benefits from superb views of the Eskdale valley. There are several lawned areas, shrubs and a sheltered area for sitting out. Also outside is a dog wash area with a heated hosepipe for giving your dog a luxury hose down after a muddy walk. Parking is approximately 250 metres from the house to preserve the pretty grass path up to the house. The owner has provided a trolley for ease of transporting luggage and shopping from the parking area
