This cottage is situated on the edge of a forest ravine in Thornthwaite near Keswick and is light and airy throughout with Velux windows on the upper floors. There are two bedrooms and a pleasant sitting room with a wood burner for the colder nights. Two sets of patio doors open to the pleasant veranda that overlooks the forest ravine and tumbling beck.
Thornthwaite is a quiet hamlet on the edge of Whinlatter Forest, close to Braithwaite and Bassenthwaite Lake. Thornthwaite boasts a popular gallery and tearoom. Whinlatter Forest draws thrill seekers to the Go Ape hire wire activity course, and the Altura mountain bike trails. You can also enjoy walks to the quiet summits of Lords Seat, Barf and Broom Fell.
Nearby Braithwaite has three pubs all serving excellent food. For something a bit special try the Cottage in the Wood on the Whinlatter Pass. Keswick is a 10-minute drive from the property offering a wide selection of pubs, restaurants and shops. Keswick also boasts a cinema and the Theatre by the Lake.
The cottage is accessed via the a path along the side of the cottage. The entrance door opens into a small hallway, off which is the kitchen/diner.
The contemporary kitchen has patio doors opening onto the veranda, a lovely place to sit out and enjoy the impressive ravine on the edge of Whinlatter Forest. The kitchen is well equipped with electric cooker and electric hob, fridge/freezer, slimline dishwasher, washer/drier, table and chairs and wall mounted TV.
There is a separate sitting room, also with patio doors to the veranda, which has comfortable seating, a TV and DVD player and a cosy wood burner (initial supply of fuel provided). Outside on the veranda there is a barrier all the way round - please note there is a steep drop to the garden and children should be supervised at all times.
Stairs from the living room lead to the first floor with a double bedroom overlooking the forest and river at the rear. Adjacent to the bedroom is the newly fitted bathroom with a velux window and bath with rain head shower over, WC and wash basin.Further stairs lead to the twin bedroom which benefits from large Velux windows that fill the room with light and offer superb views to the forest. Please note there is restricted head room above the beds.
Outside there are steps down to the garden which overlooks the river and forest. Please note that although very picturesque there is an unfenced drop to the river. Also the river is often fast flowing and may not be suitable for younger children. The veranda provides a lovely sitting out area where you can enjoy the secluded setting and watch the local wildlife and there is a further lower sitting out level with wooden table and bench. There are views through the trees to the Skiddaw range. There is a wood store in the garden and you can also lock your bikes away in here should you need to. Private parking for two cars is on the gravelled area by the cottage.
