Sitting on one of the oldest streets in Keswick, enjoy a fantastic location in the heart of town and spend cosy evenings in this lovely home from home.
This three-story Georgian terrace cottage resides on one of the oldest streets in the town of Keswick. It sleeps six people in three bedrooms. All of the local amenities and Derwentwater are easily accessed on foot and the cottage boasts superb views of the mountains and fells from the top floor.
Keswick is a busy, friendly town with plenty of interesting independent shops and galleries. The art deco cinema is a short walk down the street and the award-winning Theatre by the Lake is a 10-minute walk. The Theatre has a varied programme all year round and plays host to the Words by the Water festival. Keswick boasts several traditional pubs serving hearty food and local ale, the oldest of which is just a minutes walk from the cottage. There are also a number of contemporary bars and restaurants.
There is fantastic fell walking right on the doorstep from the family-friendly Walla Crag to the mighty Skiddaw as well as the lovely circuit around Derwentwater. Many other beautiful walks in Borrowdale and Newlands Valley are accessible by car, bus or even lake steamer.
In this period property, there is lots of Georgian decor and features to admire, including wooden window shutters. The hallway is floored with traditional, somewhat uneven, slate slabs and has a rack of hooks for hanging outdoor clothing. There is a small step down into the kitchen, which is equipped with a tall fridge/freezer, a dishwasher, an electric oven with gas hob, a microwave and a tumble dryer. The washing machine is located in the rear hallway to the back door. This hallway gives access to a small ground floor shower room with a WC.
The dining room is off the main hallway and has similar slate slab flooring and a coal-effect gas fire. The ground floor bedroom, also off the hallway, has a zip-and-link bed that will be made up as a super-king, but can be made as two single beds (please let us know when booking if you wish it to be single beds ) and an armchair.
Stairs go up to the first floor. This has a spacious sitting room which features double-aspect windows, a coal-effect open gas fire, three sofas, bookshelves and cupboards, and a Freeview TV with DVD. There is also a bedroom with a king-size bed on this floor, a bathroom with a bath and hand-held shower head, and a separate WC.
Steep cottage-style stairs go up from a door on the first-floor landing to the top floor. This door opens outwards onto the landing so caution in it's use is needed. The top-floor bedroom has two single beds, a walk in wardrobe, a sitting area with wicker chairs and a superb view of Grisedale Pike and Catbells. Because of the stairs it is not suitable for young children or those with mobility problems.
The outside yard is paved, with a sitting out area with a picnic bench and table and a retractable clothes line. The garage opposite gives parking for one car, but although it is spacious, getting in and out requires care and manoeuvrability and may only be suitable for smaller cars. It cannot be locked. Please do not block entry of the yard of the adjacent property.
