This tranquil area is surrounded by dramatic fells, farms and woodlands and is home to three lakes - Buttermere, Crummock Water and Loweswater. The village itself has two good pubs, a small chapel and two cafes - one of which serves homemade Buttermere ice cream!

You can experience superb walks from your own front door, from challenging mountain hikes to gentle lakeshore strolls - the choices are endless and the views are breathtaking. Cyclists will also enjoy the many routes from the village including the Honister, Whinlatter and Newlands Passes. Scale Force, the highest waterfall in the Lake District, is just a short walk from Buttermere, hidden away in a deep tree-lined gorge on the way from Crummock Water to Red Pike.

Sleeping two guests in one bedroom, Wilkinsyke is the perfect cottage for walkers and tourists looking to discover the Western Lake District. There is a well presented sitting room to relax in, a well-equipped kitchen, a double bedroom and an upstairs reading room.

The popular market town of Cockermouth is within a 25 minute drive offering boutique shops, pubs and cafes. Keswick town is 30 minutes away and you'll find outdoor shops aplenty as well as pubs, restaurants, cafes, attractions and a cinema and theatre.

The comfortable lounge seats two people. There is a newly fitted wood burner (initial wood supplied ) and TV with Freesat.

The kitchen is equipped with an electric hob, oven, microwave, toaster, fridge, freezer (both undercounter size) and a drop leaf dining table. There are stunning lake views from the kitchen window.

Off the kitchen is a separate WC and a bathroom with bath, separate shower and wash basin.

On the first floor is a double bedroom and a reading room. The double room is furnished with a double bed, chair and wardrobe.

Fantastic location in the of Buttermere Two pubs and two teashops. Walks in all directions so no need to use the car. Good bus service if you wanted to do a linear walk. Shower could do with updating but the lounge was comfortable. No central heating but not an issue in June. It was too hot to even try out the log burner. Some low doorways my 6ft 2Read more husband hit his head a few times. No phone signal or WiFi. Needed to go to the pub to check the weather (good excuse for a few beers) Hide

Comfortable traditional Lakeland cottage in an exceptional unique location in Buttermere. Really friendly helpful owners. On a working farm so lots of animals and rural atmosphere.

Location cannot be beaten. Note: there is only the wood burner for heating in the sitting room and the only place to dry clothes is the heater in the hall. The electric shower is good but in a small tray so bigger people may struggle. The owners are extremely helpful and supporting a working hill farm is part of the experience. Lovely traditional farmhouse cottage in a superb location. Everything you need for a week's walking. The big coat hooks over the storage heater in the hall are great for drying those wet waterproofs after a Lakeland downpour.
