This cottage is located in the grounds of Wray Castle with a peaceful country house atmosphere. It is approached by a long private drive and set in a stunning position on the western side of Lake Windermere. The cottage is a mid-19th-century country property and is attached to a guest house. Lake access is via woodland footpaths and daytime mooring is available on the National Trust jetty, from which you can also catch the Windermere steamer cruises, which alllow you to explore Windermere or visit Ambleside without taking your car.
The clematis-covered terrace along the length of the property offers a wonderful position to sit outside. You can enjoy the cover of the veranda whilst appreciating the beautiful grounds and magnificent views over the fells and the lake. This magnificent panorama from the house and grounds includes the major peaks of the Old Man of Coniston, Great Gable and The Langdale Pikes amongst others. The large lawned and shrub gardens are frequently visited by deer, rabbits and many wild birds.
Five people can be comfortably accommodated in two bedrooms. Evening meals can provided in the guest house by prior arrangement. The scenic locations of Hawkshead village, Tarn Hows and Ambleside town are only a short drive away.
The entrance to the cottage leads into the sitting room. French windows open to the terrace making this a light and airy sitting room. Comfortable sofas are arranged around the TV/DVD and electric fire. The kitchen is well-equipped with fitted pine units and a dining table. There is an electric cooker, a microwave, fridge/freezer and a washer/dryer.
There are two bedrooms, a family bedroom with a double bed and a single bed, and a double bedroom. All of the rooms have views to the garden where you can see the local wildlife, including squirrels and prolific bird life, encouraged by the feeders that the owners have around the gardens. The family bathroom has a shower over the bath and WC.
Outside, there is a covered terraced veranda which overlooks the grounds of Wray Castle, There are beautiful views over the Windermere Fells and the lake beyond. A table and chairs are provided so you can sit outside and enjoy the surroundings. There is a large lawned garden which is visited by the local wildlife including deer, rabbits and various small birds. A woodland footpath leads to the lake, and daytime mooring is available on a National Trust jetty.
For the festive period the cottage will provide a Christmas tree with lights and decorations.
