This charming holiday propertyis a contemporary cottage with beautiful views of the Eskdale Valley. Large picture windows in many of the rooms take advantage of the stunning surroundings. There is a ground floor bedroom and bathroom, making the property ideal for mixed family groups.
The property was originally built for Douglas Ferreira, the General Manager of the Ravenglass to Eskdale Railway. You can enjoy the refurbished comfort of his cottage and watch the engines of the narrow gauge La'al Ratty railway pass by - look out for the one named after him!
This up-to-date cottage is situated next to Eskdale Green station where you can hop on board to ride to the head of the valley (the foot of Scafell) or down to the coast. The fields and woodlands around the cottage attract a wealth of wildlife including buzzards, herons, kites, red squirrels and much more. Eskdale is a superb starting point for hundreds of walks either on the fells or along the banks of the River Esk, which flows from Scafell at the top of the valley down to the estuary at Ravenglass.
There are four pubs in the valley. The village shop is close by and sells a comprehensive range of goods, including groceries, fresh fruit and vegetables, food to go, alcohol and newspapers.
The side door entrance leads from a large covered porch into the hallway. Off the hallway is the main bathroom with a bath and shower over, WC, wash basin and heated towel rail. Along the hallway a door leads to the inner room with a table, seating, and a well-stocked set of bookshelves - ideal for studying maps and planning adventures!
Off this room is the super-king-size bedroom that can be made up as twin beds upon request and includes a dressing table and a full wardrobe with drawers. A further door off the hallway leads into the large, well-lit dining kitchen with an electric oven and induction hob, microwave, dishwasher and a large integrated fridge and separate integrated freezer. The dining area has an extending table (can seat up to 10) and dual aspect windows offering superb views across the fields to the fells, perfect for watching the local wildlife (binoculars provided).
The sitting room has an open fire with the initial supply of fuel provided. Large picture windows with superb views dominate the room and there is a large television with all Freesat channels, internet-based catch-up TV services, and a DVD player. There are three sofas (two 2-seaters and a 3-seater). A door leads into the rear garden.
On the first floor, the large windows on the landing have been put to good use, with tall stools to watch the wildlife outside. The large master bedroom has a super-king-size bed that can be made into twin beds on request. There is also a chest of drawers and a small wardrobe. A further twin bedroom has feature beams and fell views from the window. The twin beds are low and suitable for children but equally suitable for adults as they are full size. This room has built-in hanging storage and a chest of drawers. The shower room with WC and wash basin is off the landing. There are retractable stairgates at the top and bottom of the stairs.
The garden is fully enclosed, with a side-gate to isolate the rear garden. This includes a lawn, established plants, a slate patio with a wooden dining table and pergola, great views of the fells and the steam railway and a very popular bird table! A useful utility room is equipped with a sink, washing machine, tumble dryer and hanging space for drying clothes. There is also an extra WC adjoining. Part of the garage is available for guest use with a bike rack and an open wardrobe with shelves for other outdoor equipment.
