The owners can also recommend a local babysitter if you would like an evening out.
The tempting views of Crummock, Buttermere and Loweswater are only a short drive away, and these western fells are often much quieter than the busy central lakes. The market town of Cockermouth is a 5-minute drive away, offering supermarkets and many interesting independent shops.
A large hallway with feature stone arches greets you as you enter the property. This leads to the large open-plan living space with conservatory, sitting room and dining room, perfect for groups of friends or families. From the conservatory, floor-to-ceiling windows look out over Skiddaw, Grassmoor and the Lorton and Buttermere valleys, as well as the extensive gardens. The conservatory leads into the large, open-plan sitting/dining area which also benefits from the beautiful vista. Large, comfortable sofas and armchairs surround a fireplace with woodburning stove, and there is a large bespoke oak dining table seating 18 guests. The living area also has a Sonos music system which can be controlled via your smart/android phone.
Sliding doors can be opened or closed to separate the open-plan living area from the extensive kitchen. The fully equipped kitchen features an electric AGA, two dishwashers, double Belfast sink, microwave, toaster, American-style fridge/freezer and a Quooker boiling hot water tap. French doors open onto a kitchen garden with vegetable patch and herb garden, which guests are invited to enjoy. There is a gas BBQ and outdoor dining area - perfect for dining alfresco and taking in the wonderful views.
From the hallway you can also enter the snug which has a cosy wood burning stove and a 40-inch flatscreen TV and DVD player. There are large comfortable sofas, a wide selection of DVDs and a bookcase full of books of all genres. This room also has a 7ft pool table as well as a selection of board games, ideal entertainment on a rainy day.
The snug leads into the large utility room which has a washing machine, tumble dryer and Belfast sink. There is a separate entrance from the parking area with ample storage for boots and wet weather gear after a day on the fells. There is also a WC with wash basin at the end of the hallway.
An ornate staircase opens out to a half landing. To your right there is a double bedroom with en-suite shower room which includes a WC and wash basin. Two further double bedrooms and a twin bedroom are here, as well as a shower room with WC and wash basin and a further bathroom with bath which has a shower attachment and WC wash basin. All of the bedrooms boast stunning Lakeland views. To the left of the half landing there is a twin bedroom and double bedroom, both with en-suite shower rooms, and a further twin bedroom and bathroom with bath WC and wash basin.
The large master bedroom with super-king-size bed and copper freestanding bath is simply spectacular and has panoramic views over Cumbrian fells and valleys. Guests can enjoy a Bose sound system which can be connected to iPods. The room benefits from a private balcony with seating to relax and take in these glorious views. There is an en-suite shower room with WC and wash basin.
Rental of this property includes use of a coach house for two people - a unique hideaway in the property grounds, featuring a double bedroom with en-suite and a separate living quarter with TV and Freeview, Wi-Fi, tea- and coffee-making facilities, mini fridge and woodburning stove. The property enjoys magical views from the bedroom, lounge area and its private terrace.
All guests are provided with fluffy towels during their stay. All of the bathrooms have complimentary, locally sourced toiletries.
If prior notice is given, the owners will take delivery of your online grocery shopping on the day of your arrival day and unpack it for you.
The 6 acres of gardens were designed by international landscape and garden designer Thomas Mawson in 1910 and have featured in Cumbria Life and Country Life magazines. The beautiful gardens offer many vantage points with different views of the Lake District and the River Derwent below. There are two stone summerhouses where you can enjoy an evening drink overlooking the scenery. In the centre of the garden there is a stone BBQ and outside dining area where you can make the most of your afternoon or evening.
A large orchard at the back of the house has a children's playground including slide, swing, double swing and climbing rope.
