Sleeping eight people, this conversion of the former barn on a farm provides characterful and comfortable holiday accommodation. The property benefits from a lovely galleried dining room, oak beams and a multi-fuel burner. The barn's location has to be surely one of the most stunning in the Lake District. Set in an elevated position on the side of Whinlatter the panoramic views to Skiddaw, Bassenthwaite Lake and the northern fells are breathtaking. The owner has recently refurbished the property's shutters as well as renovating the lovely garden.
Thornthwaite is ideally situated for exploring the surrounding mountains, rivers and lakes. Whether it be mountainous walks along the fells including Cat Bells, Causey Pike and Barrow, gentle strolls around Bassenthwaite and Derwentwater or paddling and picnicking in the Newlands Valley, all are easily reached on foot from the village. Rising above Thornthwaite is Whinlatter Forest with its numerous mountain bike trails and high ropes course (Go Ape). Braithwaite, just 1 mile away, has its own village shop selling a comprehensive range of goods. There are three pubs in Braithwaite, all serving good food and fine ales, and there is also a restaurant.
Keswick is 3.5 miles where there are further pubs and restaurants as well as a supermarket. Keswick is a hub of outdoor activity and there is something to do for everyone in the local area, including the Keswick launch on Derwentwater, nearby climbing wall, renowned Theatre by the Lake, cinema and an abundance of outdoor wear shops. Cockermouth, the home of William Wordsworth, is 14 miles away.
The living area is open-plan with multi-fuel burner to keep the sitting room and galleried dining area cosy and warm in the colder months. There is a digital TV here, and a second sitting room with TV and DVD, ideal as a snug for children. A large kitchen with smart white modern wooden units is well-equipped for large families and groups. There is a Range cooker with induction hob and a microwave, plus a tall full size fridge/freezer. The kitchen has an integrated dishwasher. A handy cloakroom is great for storing boots and coats, there is also a WC and wash basin. The utility/drying room is equipped with a washing machine and tumble dryer.
On the ground floor there is a king-size bedroom with en-suite walk in shower room. This would be ideal for those with mobility issues, but please note there is a step up from the dining area to the sitting room and a further step from the sitting room into the kitchen.
Upstairs are two twin bedrooms, one of which is accessed via the galleried bridge over the dining area. There is a further king-size bedroom upstairs and a family bathroom with bath, wash basin and WC.
