Property code: SZ518

A magical stone cottage for four, situated near the village of Eskdale in the western Lakes, in an ideal position for riverside walks, climbing Scafell Pike and days out to the coast.

This lovely holiday property is a beautiful conversion for four guests based in the Miterdale Valley, one of the most tranquil and beautiful parts of the Lake District. The property was originally the village blacksmiths and is now a mixture of period features and modern furnishings. Perfect for families, children are welcome to use the outdoor play area at our nearby holiday cottage Mite Villa (also sleeping four and just 100 yards away from the property).

You will find a superb selection of walks from the front door of the property, from gentle strolls along the valley bottom, to challenging hikes over the fells and mountains.

One of our favourite walks is over the fells, dropping down into the neighbouring Wasdale valley, with the Wasdale Head Inn at the end of the walk. Wasdale is a valley of extremes with England’s highest mountain (Scafell), smallest church (St Olaf’s), deepest lake (Wastwater) and biggest liar competition (held annually at a nearby pub).

Eskdale is also a wonderful starting point for hundreds of walks. The river has natural pools for swimming and is a popular place for canoeing and fishing. The famous Ravenglass and Eskdale Miniature Railway runs along the valley, its steam trains making the leisurely 7-mile journey down to the sea.

There are five pubs in Eskdale, all welcoming children and serving real ales and a wide choice of good food. The nearest pub to the property is 10 minutes walk away via quiet roads. The village shop is a half hour walk away, sells a comprehensive range of goods, including groceries, fresh fruit and vegetables, alcohol and newspapers.

The external steps lead to the main open-plan living. This is a characterful room with beams and wood burner (initial supply of logs provided). The sitting area is by the stove and the kitchen and dining area at the other end. There is a flatscreen TV with a built in DVD player.

The well-equipped kitchen has electric hob and oven, microwave and washer/dryer. The lovely bathroom has bath with shower over. Stairs lead from the sitting room down the double bedroom on the lower floor and up to the beamed twin bedroom on the upper floor.

To the outside is a small sitting out area and parking is by the cottage. Young children are welcome to use the play area situated close by.

Cottage immaculate. Lots of oak and slate. A very high quality cottage. Its not for the disabled tho. I thought the master bedroom on lounge/kitchen floor. The cottage is over 3 levels....... very peaceful. A river running right outside the front door. If you are used to country living and the peace and quiet, this is for you x

This is a beautifully appointed and equipped cottage. Warm and cosy. It has everything you could possibly need for a relaxing and quiet getaway. There are fantastic walks on your doorstep too. The local pubs are outstanding and there are some fun things to do in the local area such as the Steam Railway and Muncaster Castle (especially the owls and Read morehawks centre!). Overall a great place to escape the business of life and truly get back to nature! Hide
