Quintessential Lakeland cottage sleeping two at the heart of Buttermere, a delightful village known for its impressive scenery, walking opportunities and friendly pubs and cafes serving local fare.

Situated in the timeless village of Buttermere, this cottage offers an unrivalled location for walking and enjoying the western Lake District. It's a traditional Lakeland cottage with some great original features, renovated to a high standard now offering lovely cosy accommodation for two.

Buttermere Lake is just a walk away and there are low, medium and high level walks for all abilities right on the doorstep. There are two pubs close at hand to quench your thirst after your efforts, and also two cafes; one offering free Wi-Fi internet access and another serving incredible local Buttermere ice cream. Then there is the lovely wood burner to relax in front of when you get back to the cottage!

Outside there is a private enclosed garden, which has wonderful views across the valley to the fells of Red Pike, High Style and High Crag - a great place to relax in the sun. There is direct access onto Rannerdale Knotts and beyond from the garden.

Just bear in mind that the pubs which are within walking distance of the cottage sometimes close down in the winter. Please contact the pubs direct to get the exact information.

Entering the front door you come into the carpeted beamed sitting room which has a wood burner (initial supply of wood provided), and a TV with DVD player. The owner has also supplied an information pack, books on local walks and board games.

The sitting room leads through to the dining area which is open to the kitchen. This area is fully tiled and there is a back door which leads straight out to a footpath on to the fells. Please note that the steps up to the footpath are quite steep. This area can be closed off from the rest of the house so is perfect for wet dogs to dry off in. A stair gate is also provided for the stairs leading off from this area.

The tiled kitchen is fully equipped. There are induction hobs and electric oven, a fridge with ice box freezer, built in microwave, storage space and a pull out hanger for wet coats.

The stairs lead upstairs from the dining area to a landing, off which is the double bedroom with views to Red Pike, the tiled bathroom with a shower over the bath and the single bedroom with velux window...

Outside there is a 5-metre walk across the yard to the enclosed garden with fantastic views across the valley to the Buttermere fells and a bench to sit back and enjoy them from. There is parking for one car. It should suitably be able to accommodate most sizes of vehicle but any extra large cars may struggle to park.

  • 1 double (4"6' bed) bedroom
  • 1 bathroom with shower over the bath and WC
  • Electric oven, hob, fridge with icebox compartment and microwave
  • Wood burner – good supply of logs provided (additional logs available at cost)

We had a wonderful week in Middle Cragg Cottage, amazingly the same cottage in which we spent our honeymoon but unrecognisable due to the expert renovations completed by Yvette and Richard.
