Situated in a prime location in the village of Braithwaite, the self-catering holiday cottage offers hundreds of walks straight from its front door. The house has retained many original features and comfortably sleeps 12 people: perfect for family gatherings.

Braithwaite is ideally situated for exploring the surrounding mountains, rivers and lakes. Whether it be mountainous walks along the fells including Cat Bells and Causey Pike, gentle strolls around Bassenthwaite and Derwent Water or paddling and picnicking in the Newlands Valley, all are easily reached on foot from the village. Rising above Braithwaite is Whinlatter forest with it's numerous mountain bike trails and high ropes course (Go Ape). Braithwaite has it's own village shop selling a comprehensive range of goods. There are three pubs in Braithwaite, all serving good food and fine ales, and there is also a restaurant.

Keswick is within walking distance or a 5-minute drive where there are further pubs and restaurants as well Booths supermarket. Keswick is a hub of outdoor activity and there is something to do for everyone in the local area. Cockermouth, the home of Wordsworth, is a 15-minute drive and while you are there it's well worth paying a visit to the Jennings Brewery.

The acommodation is situated over three floors. Enter the house through the porch with an original mosaic tiled floor.

The sitting room has comfortable seating for 12, a widescreen TV and DVD player, an original attractive Victorian marble open fire and through it's large bay window has wonderful views of the Lakeland fells.

The dining room is large and comfortably sits 12 people around its table. The kitchen is well-equipped and has a Range cooker, dishwasher, washing machine and plenty of storage.

From the kitchen is the utility room with fridge/freezer, tumble dryer, microwave, a further undercounter fridge and a separate WC with wash handbasin.

Heading to the first floor you'll find a master bedroom which has stunning views towards Latrigg and Skiddaw. It has a king-size bed, wardrobe with drawers, bedside tables and a beautiful feature fireplace. Next to here is a zip-and-link room with wardrobe, chest of drawers and bedside tables. It has a super-king which can be made into a twin upon request. There is also a bunk room with a set of adult bunk beds and chest of drawers. All the bedrooms on this floor have wash basins. Finally on this floor is a bathroom with wash basin, a large bath with shower over for soaking those aching muscles after a day on the fells. There is a separate WC next door.

Stairs lead to the second floor with three further bedrooms. The first is an en-suite double bedroom, Again with stunning views, bedside tables, wardrobe and chest of drawers. The second double room and the twin room both have wardrobes, bedside tables and chest of drawers. These two rooms share a shower room with enclosure, WC and wash basin. Just off the landing is a second sitting room/games room with a sofa bed, TV, DVD player, table football, Nintendo Wii and board games.

The spacious back garden has fabulous views of Causey Pike, Stile End and Barrow. There is a patio with rattan furniture and a picnic bench, an ideal spot for an evening glass of wine. There is also a small raised patio area opposite the back door with a bench, ideal for a morning cuppa.

There is plenty of parking available both at the back of the property as you come up the drive or at the front of the house.

Great space, ideal for a large group of friends. Clean and airy. Good space for socialising and catching up. Ideal location in a small quaint town, with Keswick just around the corner. Comfortable beds and well equipped kitchen. Hosts also chucked in a couple of nice local treats which was very thoughtful.

We really enjoyed our stay. The location is great for Keswick and Whinlatter walks. The house is well equipped and clean. We cooked for our big group a lot and found everything we needed in the kitchen. The living room is very comfy, and the games room upstairs was well used by the teenagers in our group (helpfully, we couldn't hear them from the fRead moreirst floor bedrooms). The views are lovely from the front of the house and the back garden too. We all said we would be happy to stay again. Hide

We had a very enjoyable stay as a group of six friends getting together for our annual reunion. The property was ideal and the location was so convenient. We did not need to use our cars during the stay. We had a very good meal at the Ruddings Hotel a 2 minute walk from the property.
