A gorgeous, renovated, three-bedroom cottage, set in the quiet hamlet of Boot, and well placed for long valley walks, steam train journeys to the coast and days out to Ambleside.
The hamlet of Boot nestles in the Eskdale valley, one of the more tranquil of the Lake District. This holiday cottage is a rare find, a true country residence superbly decorated throughout, offering self-catering accommodation for five to six people with great views of the surrounding mountains. This cottage has been awarded four stars and a gold award from Visit England.
Eskdale is a wonderful starting point for hundreds of walks, either on the fells or the banks of the River Esk, which flows from Scafell at the top of the valley down to the estuary at Ravenglass, an old fishing village complete with a ruined Roman bath house! The river has natural pools for swimming and is a popular place for canoeing and for fishing. In the Eskdale valley is an 18-hole golf course and private salmon fishing river. The famous Ravenglass and Eskdale Miniature Railway runs along the valley, its steam trains leisurely making the 7-mile journey down to the sea.
There are five pubs in the valley - one is almost opposite the cottage, whilst another is a few minutes' walk away. All welcome children and serve real ales and a wide choice of good food. Eskdale village shop, Eskdale Stores, sells a comprehensive range of goods, including groceries, fresh fruit and vegetables, food to go, alcohol and newspapers. A public payphone is located a couple of minutes' walk away, and there is limited reception for mobile phones at the cottage.
At the property, you will be greeted with a welcome pack of tea, coffee, milk and biscuits.
The kitchen is fully equipped with electric oven and gas hob, microwave, dishwasher and plenty of storage space. In the adjoining utility room is a fridge/freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer. The kitchen also has dining for six.
The sitting room is light and comfy with French windows leading to the enclosed garden. There is an open fire (the first basket of logs is provided), Sky TV (with documentaries, lifestyle and culture), DVD and video player. One of the walls is lined with books which you are welcome to borrow during your holiday. There is also Wi-Fi internet access throughout the house.
The main bathroom is downstairs and has a bath with shower over.
Upstairs are three bedrooms. The main double has an en-suite bathroom. The second double has a 3/4 bed and the third room is a twin.
Outside are great views of the surrounding Lakeland fells, hundreds of walks right from the front door and a south-facing garden with table and chairs.
