An enticing, holiday home for up to eight guests, set within the picturesque village of Applethwaite, while also ideal for Keswick, Derwentwater and Bassenthwaite Lake.

This holiday cottage offers self-catering accommodation in Applethwaite. No more than a few dozen houses, Applethwaite is the most sought-after village around Keswick, and it's not hard to see why. The village is a sleepy little hamlet, more reminiscent of Madeira than England, with hens, ducks, goats and sheep wandering over the lane. And the lane isn't going anywhere else; the main road by-passed Applethwaite long before bypasses were thought of. So children and pets are pretty free to wander.

Beside the lane riotous gardens bloom azalea, rhododendron and every kind of shrub hugging the hillside. Streams cascade down Skiddaw on their way to the River Derwent, and tumble merrily beside the road and farmsteads.

And yet, you're only 1.5 miles from Keswick, with all it has to offer. You can walk there along the road, or on one of the many paths cutting through the village, on their way up to Skiddaw, Latrigg, or into the woods around.

The cottage sleeps eight in four bedrooms. It is surrounded by a lovely garden, in which children and pets can play in safety with amazing views of the Borrowdale fells. The fitted kitchen is well-equipped, with built-in electric cooker, microwave, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer, and of course all the usual kitchen equipment. The lounge looks out at the wonderful view, and is comfortably furnished with a coal fire, colour television and video. The dining room shares the fabulous view, and eight of you can eat here in comfort. There is a shower room with WC on the ground floor. Heating is by oil-fired central heating which keeps the whole house snug even in deepest winter. For additional heating in the sitting room there is an open fire.

Upstairs there are four bedrooms. The master bedroom has a double bed and Again looks out on that view. There is also another room with a double bed. The third room has twin beds and the fourth, a set of full-sized bunk beds. The bathroom on the first floor features a bath, hand-held shower and WC, and a very useful airing cupboard.

Outside is a garden and patio with garden furniture which Again has fantastic views of the Borrowdale fells.

12 years of Lakeland holidays and this is one of our favourites! Stunning location, comfortable accommodation. All the amenities of Keswick a short drive away. The bonus of the field next door was a huge hit with the kids, especially with the resident chickens and lambs! Will definitely come again

Stunning location 5 minutes drive from Keswick, some of the best views Ive seen in the lakes from the living rooms and bedrooms, cosy and spacious accommodation, friendly owners on hand if needed , highly recommend, we squeezed a lot in on our 4 night break and managed some relaxing time too , drinking by the roaring fire in the evenings

A lovely roomy house. Very comfortable. Kitchen dining was great so we used the dining room for craft and games. Excellent for adults and children. Garden was wrap around .. The dogs had a wonderful time.. Very convenient, quiet location. Would highly recommend.

The house was fabulous for ourselves and three dogs. very comfortable , loads of space in the house comfy lounge , beds and super equipped kitchen. inncredible views from the patio. Lovely well-equipped house, amazing view of the fells across the valley. Very good location to get to anywhere in the lakes, particularly the north lakes. We certainly expect to stay there again next time we come to the Lakes.

Beautiful setting in an extremely quiet village with the most fantastic views from inside the house. The house could do with a bit of sprucing up and tlc, although this would probably increase the rental price.

We had an asboluetly incredible stay at Derwent Lea. Ian was a wonderful host and very accomodating. The views were amazing, and the locations was perfect for a holiday stay. We were close enough to Keswick for convenience, but at the same time Applethwaite is such a lovely countryside village. We are looking forward to returning!
