This holiday cottage offers self-catering accommodation in the heart of Eskdale, one of the most tranquil valleys of the Lake District. It is one of our largest properties, offering comfortable and spacious group accommodation for up to 16 people.
With a large, south-facing garden and fantastic views of the surrounding fells, the cottage is an ideal base for exploring the mountains, rivers, lakes and tarns of this beautiful part of Cumbria. Eskdale is a wonderful starting point for hundreds of walks, either on the fells or along the banks of the River Esk, which flows from Scafell at the top of the valley down to the estuary at Ravenglass, an old fishing village complete with a ruined Roman bath-house. The river has natural pools for swimming and is a popular place for canoeing and fishing.
The famous Ravenglass and Eskdale Miniature Railway runs along the valley, its steam trains making the leisurely 7-mile journey down to the sea. There are five pubs in the Eskdale Valley, three of which are within walking distance of the cottage (the nearest, is just a 10-minute walk). All welcome children and serve real ales and a wide choice of good food. The village shop sells a comprehensive range of goods, including groceries, fresh fruit and vegetables, food to go, alcohol and newspapers. A public payphone is located 400 yards away from the farmhouse and there is some reception for mobile phones on the Orange network.
The hallway leads to the fully equipped kitchen to the left - with dishwasher, an electric range cooker, microwave, and a large fridge. There is a washing machine and tumble dryer in the room under the stairs, as well as a second fridge and a separate upright freezer. The kitchen downstairs leads to a conservatory with doors to the garden and fantastic fell views.
There is a separate dining room with a large table that easily seats 16 and CD/MP3 stereo system. The sitting room is large and spacious with an open fire, TV, and DVD. The dining room leads to two downstairs bedrooms (one family room with a double bed & a single bed, and a bunk bedroom) and a bathroom with shower over the bath.
Upstairs there are five further bedrooms - Three doubles, a twin and a family room with one double bed & one single bed. There are two further bathrooms on this level - one with a bath, one with a shower.
The garden outside is large and faces south, and features an outside table tennis table. In the barn next door is a games room with a pool table and table football. The pond in the orchard is 50 metres from the cottage and is available for use by guests. There are rafts and it is a wonderful place for children to play. There is parking at the back of the farmhouse with ample room for five cars.
