Lovely refurbished cottage in the pretty village of Newby, in the Eden Valley. A great base for friends or family looking to explore Cumbria, the Lakes and the North Pennines.

Enjoy a stay at this lovely period cottage in the pretty village of Newby, 8 miles from the historic market town of Penrith. Featuring an open-plan living area, an enclosed south-facing garden and an abundance of walking and cycling trails almost from the front door, this dog-friendly cottage is a great base for families or groups of friends keen to explore the Eden Valley, the Lake District National Park and the North Pennines.

This deceptively large two-storey cottage is set off a quiet country road lined with other properties of equally charming character. Its bright and fresh interior is punctuated by contemporary soft furnishings and modern conveniences that help to create a comforting ambience across both floors. Entering via the hallway, you can all unwind to your heart’s content in the open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner, whether enjoying indulgent brunches created using local produce, getting lost in an audiobook on the plush sofas or watching a late film as the dogs snooze on the parquet flooring. If you don’t fall asleep there too, you’re guaranteed a restful night in either of the cottage's bedrooms: an en-suite double bedroom or en-suite twin bedroom that can be made up into a super-king-size bedroom upon request. Outside in the south-facing garden, start the day right with a morning coffee, lose an hour in a good book or absorb the stars with a nightcap. A nearby drying room is ideal for rejuvenating battle-hardened clothes and footwear.

The awe-inspiring Eden Valley is brimming with historic market towns including Penrith and Appleby-in-Westmorland (within 8 miles), both of which offer a fantastic flavour of the area’s culture and history. The twins are also key milestones on the Lakes and Dales Loop, a must for experienced cyclists. The northern edge of the Lake District National Park, home to Ullswater Haweswater, is just 6 miles from the cottage.

  • 2 bedrooms - 1 double and 1 3ft twin zip-and-link (which can be made up as super-king-size on request)

We really enjoyed our stay at Rambler Rose. The cottage is very well designed and worked perfectly for the two of us and our dog, Milo. The garden is completely enclosed so we had peace of mind, letting Milo be in the garden. Equally we found that the kitchen was well provided for and the living area very comfortable. The bedrooms were also comfortRead moreable. The selection of books and games was also very appreciated. Big thanks to Claire for an excellent stay. Hide

A lovely cottage in a lovely location. The owner, Claire, made us feel immediately welcome with guest boxes for ourselves and our dog. The cottage was in a great setting that allowed us to explore the local villages and countryside as well as the lakes nearby [Ullswater just 7 miles away]. There was plenty to do and the cottage has been really niceRead morely renovated. It was a lovely place to return to at the end of the day and on cold evenings it was lovely to relax with the bioethanol fire. Hide
