Stunning converted barn in the lovely village of Matterdale. Perfect escape for a family or friends looking to explore the Lake District and the great outdoors that surround this property.

A superb barn conversion close to beautiful Ullswater, this is the perfect holiday home for families or friends who want to explore this gorgeous corner of the Lake District National Park. Sleeping six guests, this spacious and beautifully furnished property is set in the lovely Matterdale Valley, with wonderful views from all the main rooms. Ullswater is within 4 miles and there is a wealth of walks on your doorstep.

There are spectacular views across the fells throughout the barn, which retains original features such as beams and a part-exposed stone wall in the spacious lounge. A lovely, light-filled room, it has floor-to-ceiling windows, with comfortable sofas where you can relax in front of the wood burner and enjoy the view. There is a streamlined kitchen, and the adjoining dining room has more splendid views. Upstairs are a family bathroom and three welcoming bedrooms with tranquil interiors, perfect for a peaceful night’s sleep. There are two king-size bedrooms with countryside views, and a bunk bedroom. Outside, a raised patio with seating overlooks the fells and is a great spot to dine alfresco.

The barn is just 1 mile from Aira Force waterfall, fed by the Aira Beck as it thunders over boulders. Once an 18th-century pleasure ground, the National Trust landmark has woodland trails and a well-maintained path up to the dramatic, 20m waterfall. You can also arrive on an Ullswater Steamer from Glenridding (4 miles). There are four hop-on-and-off piers around the lake—a great way to explore this scenic landscape. Historic Dalemain Mansion (7 miles) is a fine stately home with 5 acres of colourful gardens to wander. Attractions in Keswick (13.5 miles) include Theatre by the Lake and Kong Adventure Centre, with fun indoor and outdoor activities for all ages.

  • 3 bedrooms - 2 king-size and 1 twin
  • 3 bathrooms – 1 en-suite wet room with shower and WC, 1 downstairs wet room with shower and WC and 1 bathroom with shower over bath and WC
  • Electric oven and induction hob, dishwasher, microwave and fridge/freezer

We had a wonderful relaxing week at Hollows. The house is beautifully appointed and very comfortable. We enjoyed drinking in the glorious views from the picture windows and spotting wildlife, including red squirrels. Absolutely loved our stay at Hollows and would re-visit again at the drop of a hat. Beautiful location and was so restful to start the day staring out at the fells. The house is beautifully appointed and feels luxurious but homely. Loved it so much we extended our stay by a couple of nights.

An amazing cottage with everything you need. Remote enough to feel like you are at one with nature but close enough to towns and amenities should you need them. With beautiful views from every window, Hollows is a lovely property in a great part of the Lake District. Blessed with good weather we walked, swam and enjoyed local pub gardens and cafe terraces. We were enjoying our stay so much, we extended it by an extra two nights. We hope to return, so many walks still to do!

This is a wonderful accomodation in excellent surroundings. Modern, comfortable and well equipped with new appliances. The big glass panels on the walls allow the landscape to be enjoyed from the inside in all weathers. And, yes, we saw the owl and the rabbits every evening! The binoculars we brought with us came handy.
