Escape to this charming cottage in Hawkshead in the Lake District. Sleeping four guests, and also welcoming two of their dogs, the characterful, two-bedroom property enjoys proximity to local shops and pubs, as well as to museums dedicated to William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter. From here venture 3 miles to Wray Castle on the shores of Lake Windermere, 3.5 miles to Coniston Water, with its magnificent walks, or 7 miles to the village of Grasmere.

Step inside this inviting retreat, hanging your jackets in the hall as you pass. Head through into the kitchen, with its revealed timbers and stone, to make a cup of tea to enjoy with the Grasmere gingerbread you have bought on a trip out. Prepare your meals and dine in here whenever you fancy a cosy night in. Also downstairs, is a double bedroom, again with a stone wall, and a family shower room. The other bedroom, also a double with en-suite shower room, is to be found upstairs adjoining the lounge. The lounge itself has comfortable seating and a TV/DVD to relax in front of after exciting trips out. There is also a snug with TV for alternative viewing or as a quiet space to escape to with your book for a while. Enjoy relaxing in the courtyard garden whenever the weather is fine. Watch children and pups near the stream. Parking at this cottage is on the road, on a first-come, first-served basis, with two permits available to guests.

Plan trips into Ambleside, 5 miles from the cottage. While you are here, wander in and out of the interesting shops, find places to dine, see the Roman fort and walk 0.5 miles down to the pier at Waterhead. From here you can board a launch and take a cruise on Lake Windermere.

A lovely cottage in a quiet part of this picturesque village. There are so many walks straight from the village plus a bus service to nearby towns that we didnt use the car once. Will be coming back to Hawkshead.

This cottage is tucked away down a pretty little alley a stones throw from the village. It is comfy, quirky and very well equipped. The beds are super comfy and the bed lined clean. It's an old cottage so don't expect it to be pristine but it has great character and a pretty view from the upstairs lounge window. The cottage was dirty with dead woodlice on the floor, mould in the bathrooms and an overwhelming musky smell when we first arrived. It was also tiny - theres no way it would comfortably fit 4 people (there was only 3 of us). For example, there are really only spaces for 3 people at the dining room table and a small under counter fridge. Wouldnt stay again - definitely do not advise coming here with children as the stairs and steps were a constant worry with a toddler. Cleanliness was generally poor and bathrooms in particular werent great. Smell and feel of damp all over, any washing ended up smelling and bedsheets felt wet, awful to sleep in. Weird to have too small sheets for thRead moree bed, had to huddle in the middle to get covered. Kitchen randomly stocked, huge table in a small space and not big enough for four. Hide

Cottage in lovely village, decent cooking facilities in cottage, only one hotel serving food in the village and it was necessary to book a few days in advance which was a shame. The stairs in the cottage were very steep and on a curve, sadly there was no handrail, so it was fairly treacherous to go up and down . We did enjoy our stay here however It's definitely small, more suitable for 2 people. We are 3 adults and found it a squeeze, even the photos on the site only show 3 chairs around the kitchen tabl. The outdoor space needs a lot of TLC. In a great location. Kitchen well equipped. Sofas not comfy. Didn't really use the snug. Not much wardrobe space aRead morend no coat hangers in the wardrobe.
