Make the 8.5-mile drive around the water to Wray Castle, set on the shores of Lake Windermere. Catch the ferry across the lake from Bowness-on-Windermere then embark upon a 4-mile, circular walk to the Claife Viewing Station, up to Hill Top, where Beatrix Potter once lived, and back down to the ferry again. Drive 14 miles to Glenridding to board a steamboat on Ullswater.
