Part of a small terrace of miner’s cottages dating back to the 19th century, this traditional property has been beautifully updated to provide warm and cosy accommodation for two guests. Situated in a wooden glade half a mile from the southern shores of Ullswater and offering lovely views across the lake, this pretty period cottage makes a picturesque base for eager walkers and nature lovers discovering the area’s beautiful woodlands, villages, lakes and fells. Featuring original timber beams, an inviting wood burner and a stone fireplace, this romantic retreat is an ideal escape for a couple seeking a secluded Lakeland hideaway.
The cottage is reached along an unmade woodland track, with a porch leading into the delightful open-plan pitch-pine lounge/kitchen/diner. With exposed ceiling beams, a welcoming wood burner, TV and plenty of seating, the bright and refreshing lounge is an ideal space to snuggle up together in the evening. The central dining table is perfect for sharing a romantic meal for two which you can enjoy cooking in the stylishly arranged kitchen. A short staircase leads upstairs to a fresh, light and high-ceilinged double bedroom with built-in wardrobes and a charming wainscoted en-suite bathroom with a traditional roll-top bath. The limed-oak floors of the bedroom and bathroom benefit from cosy underfloor heating. Outside, the shared garden is visited by a variety of wildlife including red squirrels, and features a lawn with outdoor furniture, apple trees and hedges overlooking the valley.
Local attractions include Aira Force Waterfall (2.5 miles), Helvellyn (5.5 miles) and the friendly villages of Patterdale and Glenridding (both within 2.5 miles).
