A charming stone cottage on a small country estate by the shores of Coniston Water, this retreat is perfect for a holiday in the heart of the glorious Lake District. Sleeping two adults and one child, this characterful property has wonderful views of the lake and mountains from extensive shared gardens. There is also direct access to the estate’s stretch of private lakeshore, where you can sit by the water and drink in the peace and beauty of your surroundings. Coniston village, with shops, cafes and pubs is within 1 mile.
The semi-detached cottage is one of five delightful holiday homes set in a pretty courtyard. Step into the cosy lounge and relax on the plump sofa or comfortable armchair in front of the wood burner. Deep-set windows give lovely views of the garden, lake and mountains. The compact country-style kitchen/diner has ceiling beams and a Lakeland slate floor, with stairs leading to the first floor. This houses a king-size bedroom with the same beautiful view, a small single room for children only, and a bathroom. Outside, in front of the cottage, are the shared gardens and the shores of Coniston Water, perfect for picnics and paddling.
Explore the beautiful lake by water on paddleboards or in canoes, kayaks and motorboats, available to hire in Coniston. Or take a trip on the famous Gondola, a splendid restored Victorian steam yacht, with jetty stops for scenic walks along and above the lake. A full cruise is a perfect way to see the highlights of this idyllic corner of the Lakes. Grizedale Forest (7 miles) has miles of walking and cycling trails. Alternatively, Hill Top, a 17th-century farmhouse in Near Sawrey (6 miles) was Beatrix Potter’s home and inspired many of her delightful stories.
