You’ll never forget the views from this elevated character cottage in Cumbria’s Coniston. Boasting a terrace that overlooks Coniston Water and The Old Man of Coniston behind you, you’re always going to enjoy a morning coffee or an evening sundowner with the very best views the area has to offer throughout your stay. Inside, the space is relaxing and instantly welcoming, inviting four guests to rest and recharge ahead of thrill-seeking Lake District adventure days. Step out from your doorstep and onto a fell footpath, hiking The Old Man (2.5 miles) in an easy-to-follow or more challenging route, suitable for all fitness levels.

Enter the kitchen/diner where an Aga lends a traditional feel to the space and keeps things warm throughout cooler months. From here, move into the lounge to find another cosy atmosphere with the cushy sofa and armchairs, the warming wood burner and the Smart TV for nights of entertainment. You can also access the multi-level terrace from here, a space equipped with outdoor furniture and a BBQ. Whilst this property sleeps four guests, there are three bedrooms to choose from across the first and second floors, two attractive doubles and one bunk bedroom that kids might prefer. There’s also an en-suite bathroom and a family bathroom on the first floor, the larger of which has a bath for post-hike soaks.

Take the half-mile stroll into the village each day to find cafes, pubs and a spattering of shops worthy of a browse. History buffs will love a trip to The Ruskin Museum (0.5 miles) and a hike up to the Coniston Copper Mines (1.5 miles). The famed lake of Coniston Water is just a short walk away (0.5 miles) and invites you to hike around, take a cruise on the National Trust-maintained Steam Yacht Gondola or even hire a boat to explore at your own pace.

Great cottage, comfortable beds and well equipped. Photos don't do justice of view - enjoyed sitting on patio with perfect view of Coniston lake. Fabulous location, 5 minute walk to centre of Coniston. We walked to Tarn Hows and up Old Man of Coniston from the cottage and enjoyed nearby Elterwater and Ambleside (20 mins drive). When we visited (SepRead moret 24) no ensuite shower installed and shower over bath (with shower curtains) not pleasant alternative but overall really enjoyed our stay. Hide

This is a lovely cottage over looking coniston lake, high in the hill side. It is not the easiest cottage to get to but the view is lovely. This old miners cottage is well equipt and very comfortable. We used the bedroom in the roof as my partner is 6'4 and has trouble fitting in beds that have a foot rest/end (the main bed room with the ensuit hasRead more this) and slept well. I would stay here again. Hide

Lovely view, however the access is difficult unless you have a 4 x 4. Also it needs a good clean . It is cramped for 5 adults.

Great holiday in this lovely cottage. Bed really comfy and very well equiped kitchen. Great location for walks without having to drive anywhere. Also convenient to good pubs in the village. We really liked the log fire, friendly staff and good food in the Black Bull. The drive up to the cottage was a bit hairy the first time but absolutely fine (weRead more have a big car which isn't 'low slung'). The walk to the village is steep. Hide

Rock Cottage was well equipped and the view over Coniston Water was amazing. Although it sleeps 6, 4 was ample.

Wonderful cottage perched on the hillside above coniston. You can walk straight from the cottage to the old man circuits , when we went (April 15-21) it was not only empty but the view was so clear you could see the Isle of Man. Beds very comfortable, kitchen well stocked , living room cozy especially nice with a fire going. The garden is on at leaRead morest 3 levels with a sun trap at the bottom. Was too cold for a bbq but Im sure thats all you would do in the summer. Easy walk to the restaurants! Hide
