Treat a big group to a five-star retreat in a former schoolhouse. Located in the Lake District, this property would be the perfect place for two families and their dogs to get away from everything and go on adventures. You’ll be close to the village of Watermillock and surrounded by mountains, lakes and wildlife.

Start in the main social area, a large kitchen/lounge/diner with glass patio doors to one side. These offer plenty of natural light, and as the evening draws in, use the wood burner for a lovely cosy touch. The room flows into a dining area, and at the end of the room, there’s a kitchen with an AGA. If you’d like some quiet – or perhaps music – there’s a sitting room with reclining seats and a piano. The ground floor is completed by a laundry room. Head upstairs for the bedrooms and bathrooms, plus a spacious landing featuring table football. There are two king-size bedrooms, one of which has an en-suite shower room. Then you’ll see two twin rooms, comfortable and ideal for children. Finally, there’s a shower room with a WC and a family bathroom with a roll-top bath. The garden is enclosed by a wooden fence and a stone wall, and has a lawn, lily pond and trees. If you’re lucky, you might see red squirrels scampering around. On sunny days, light up the BBQ and dine on the outdoor furniture.

The closest village to your holiday home is Watermillock, which is on the bank of Ullswater and only 1 mile away. Other than that, you’ll be in a pretty remote location with lots of mountains around. Visit Helvellyn, 7.5 miles away, which has three different routes to try, or go to Scafell Pike (24 miles).

The most well equipped cottage we have ever stayed in. This was our second visit and we will certainly come again. Brilliant location with shops and pubs in Pooley Bridge and walks from the doorstep. Recommend a visit to Dalmain for marmalade fudge - and the house and gardens.

Very well equipped, very comfortable, loved the location and seeing red squirrels. Would love to return but the garden is currently not secure enough for an inquisitive dog.

Lovely house in a good location. Extremely well equipped with everything one needs. A very nice touch was the welcome pack which also included a bottle of wine. The owners have gone to great lengths to make this house a stay to remember.

We would change nothing, the house was superb for our needs, so well equipped and the location is incredible, some nice touches with an arrival pack, toiletries in each of the bathrooms etc.. Ullswater has a lot to offer with some superb walking and water sports all available which we took advantage of as a group.

Lovely, roomy house which was perfect for our group. We managed to cook Christmas dinner in the Aga with no previous experience- it was an adventure which fortunately turned out well. I wouldnt hesitate to recommend the house, although its worth mentioning that the garden wasnt totally secure for the dogs.

A very comfortable holiday cottage set in good grounds with lovely views. The kitchen was extremely well equipped, the living room was cosy with the log burner and the bed very comfortable. It was a real treat to see red squirrels in the garden and we were fortunate to have a week of blue sky days with frost and a little snow. An ideal house in a great location, lots of character and everything you could want provided. A unique experience cooking on the Aga. The best recommendation we can give is would we go back for another family holiday? The answer is a positive yes from three generations of our family .

Fabulous cottage myself and the family stayed 5 of us in Total. Plenty of space, kitchen is huge with all the equipment you could think of the complimentary tea/coffee etc, was lovely touch on the arrival. The rooms are beautiful spacious clean beds, linning, towels and shower/bath soaps provided. Modern bathrooms. Cleanliness was 5*. The enclosed Read moregarden is beautifull and location of the cottage is ideal, Pooley Bridge 15mins, Keswick 18mins etc. Will definitely be returning. Hide
