Treat yourself to a five-star family holiday in Caldbeck. Set in a converted barn with a stone exterior, this retreat would be a lovely spot for everyone to spend time together, enjoying the gorgeous garden, relaxing in the lounge or heading out for little adventures. So, gather the kids, take your partner by the hand, and head off.
When you enter the property, you’ll walk through a glazed barn door – one of many features which honour the building’s past. If your feet are cold, try the underfloor heating or head to the lounge and cosy up in front of the wood burner. You’ll get plenty of light through the glass patio doors, which illuminate the area and show off the wooden touches found throughout. The kitchen/diner flows naturally on and has plenty of special features to make your stay even better. If you like fresh bread, try making a loaf in the machine and make sure you start your day with a drink from the coffee machine. You’ll have a downstairs shower room with a WC, and if you go upstairs, you’ll come to a family bathroom with a roll-top bath. There are two bedrooms, both with vaulted ceilings and exposed beams. One has twin beds and the other has a king-size bed. The barn comes with a charming garden, where you can cook on the BBQ and eat in the outdoor dining area. You might have visitors, too – free-range chickens roam around.
The barn is wonderful, and it’s in an explorers’ paradise. Take a day to climb Skiddaw (11.5 miles) or walk around Aira Force Waterfall (16.5 miles). If you love the sea, why not visit Allonby Beach, only 18 miles away? For any supplies, head to Wigton (7.5 miles), a nearby market town.
