This romantic bolthole is the perfect base for those who love to get outdoors and explore. A multitude of walks are accessible from your front door, including to Loughrigg Fell and Stock Ghyll Force. The property has an elevated position with far-reaching views and a fabulous shared outdoor area where you can watch the sun set over the mountains. After a long walk, return to your cosy retreat to snuggle under the blankets on the sofa in the warmth of the wood burner effect gas fire.
A steep drive, followed by a set of large steps, leads to the front door of this characterful property. Once inside, you’ll find a warm and welcoming holiday cottage, with elegant, exposed beams, Lakeland stonework and flagstone flooring. The open-plan lounge/diner has an impressive vaulted ceiling and a picture window framing a spectacular view of Loughrigg. There’s also a dining table, where you can enjoy a delicious meal for two. The attractive king-size bedroom also boasts a vaulted ceiling and, again, has stunning fell views. Outside, pour a glass of wine and relax in the shared patio garden overlooking the village.
Ambleside is an excellent base for walkers. Stride out from the village to the summit of Loughrigg. Although one of the National Park’s smaller fells, it stands alone and provides magnificent panoramic views. A 1-mile stroll will bring you to Waterhead, which sits on the shores of Windermere. Here you’ll find some wonderful independent cafes and cute shops, and you can also catch the steamer to cruise across the lake. The landscape around Windermere has inspired writers and poets for centuries, including William Wordsworth. You can visit his former home at Rydal Mount (1.5 miles), where you can browse the family heirlooms and potter around the rambling garden.
