Walk into Hawkshead to visit the Beatrix Potter Gallery, see the grammar school that poet William Wordsworth attended, and eat out in a pub. Drive 6 miles to Ambleside to explore a broader selection of colourful shops or to choose between eateries. While you are here, catch a carriage or walk 0.5 miles to Waterhead to take a cruise out on Lake Windermere.
