Sleeping five guests across three bedrooms, you’ll be positioned within Grizedale Forest on the cusp of Hawkshead (3 miles), a village with impressive literacy connections to Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter. Explore to your heart’s content by day and come back to a crackling fire at night, delving into your favourite treats as you snuggle up and watch TV.

Practical and welcoming throughout, your accommodation is studded amongst spacious lawned gardens with ample space for enjoying al fresco drinks. Leave your outdoor gear in the porch and unwind in the lounge/diner over tea and cake, settling down at the table or reclining on the sofas. There is a wood burner-effect electric fire for added cosiness, plus a TV, DVD and Hi-FI for entertainment. The kitchen may be compact, but it has everything you need to cook hearty meals, and there is a handy adjoining utility room alongside a ground-floor shower room.

A short 0.5-mile stroll will bring you to the Visitor Centre of Grizedale Forest, an excellent central point for all those leisurely walks you’ll soon be enjoying. Explore on foot or by bike, or take to the treetops for an aerial adventure courtesy of Go Ape. Lake Windermere is a mesmerising sight, 5 miles away, and if you stroll along the shoreline in the direction of Ambleside, you’ll be rewarded by a traditional launch service across the water. Coniston Water is also within 7.5 miles for pleasant walks, and the most daring amongst you will be thrilled with the proximity of The Old Man of Coniston, 8 miles away.

Perfect location with access to walking from your doorstep. The cottage is very comfortable. If you have dogs be aware that the farmer puts sheep in the field at the side and back of the cottage. We loved this and our dog spent hours lying on the grass watching them but it could cause issues if your pooch reacts to them. The kennels property is a secluded cottage in Grizedale forest. We went to the property last year and returned this year aswell. It is a warm cosy home, relaxing and clean and so peaceful and quiet with the surroundings of nature. No roads near by. We hope to return again next year

I would recommend this cottage. We have been visiting the Lakes for many years and the cottage is in a prime location for accessing many of the attractions the lakes has to offer. It is basically within Grizedale Forrest, but secluded so that you will not be disturbed by any other tourists. The cottage is large enough for a family of 5 (parents,2 tRead moreeenage boys, grandma and dog)-although be warned that the fridge is only big enough for 1 days provisions if you intend to cook (small under counter). We had a wonderful stay. It's such a great location and is a perfect base to explore the forest from. Our children loved listening out for the owls in the evenings and running around in the garden during the day. The cottage is well equipped and the beds are all very comfortable. It was generously warm despite some frosty mornings outside.

We had a lovely stay at this cottage. The location is amazing- listening to the owls at night and being a short walk to the Grizedale visitor centre was excellent. The welcome pack was appreciated. The beds were comfy. The welcome pact was very brief- would have been nice to have information on local walks etc. we would most definitely return.
