Head further afield to Ambleside (4.5 miles), a bustling tourist town with loads to explore right on the tip of Lake Windermere. From here, take a cruise along the lake which offers a hop-on, hop-off service stopping at Brockhole, Bowness and Lakeside Pier. Try out stand up paddleboarding, kayaking or rowing on Windermere or Coniston Water (4 miles) in the shadow of the surrounding mountains. Visit World of Beatrix Potter (9.5 miles) and find out more about the children’s author, or discover some history at the National Trust’s Wray Castle (3 miles), a magnificent Victorian neo-gothic building.
