Portinscale is a small village on the edge of Derwentwater. There is a large marina where you can hire boats or launch your own. In the centre of the village is a delightful tea-room called The Chalet that transforms into a restaurant by night. There also is a good village pub that serves food, local ale and is dog friendly. Keswick is a short stroll away over a pleasant footpath with views to Skiddaw and Walla Crag. There are plenty of great walks straight from the door either down to the lake or into the Newlands Valley.
