Hayton is a lovely rural village, perfect for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle but still be within a short drive of both the  picturesque Solway Coast, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and the world Heritage Lake District National Park.  There is a small village shop, a Church and a Hairdressers. Head to nearby Allonby, less than a 10 minute drive away, and take a walk along the pebble and sandy beaches here. The wide open vistas and views across the water towards Scotland are sure to blow the cobwebs away! If golf is your bag there are 3 local clubs including Silloth, one of the top courses in the UK, along with Maryport & Aspatria golf clubs. The Solway Coast is well known for its beautiful sunsets so why not make a flask of hot chocolate and enjoy the view? There are plenty of cycle paths stretching along the coast if you like to explore on 2 wheels. Bikes can also be stored securely in the garage

Those interested in maritime history should head to the harbour towns of Maryport and Whitehaven, or spend a day in the border city of Carlisle where you can learn all about the area's Roman heritage at the fantastic Tullie House Museum or even visit nearby Hadrian's Wall. For those who'd prefer to indulge in a bit of retail therapy, head to the Georgian market town of Cockermouth with its numerous independent shops, 3 supermarkets and the National Trust-owned ancestral home of William Wordsworth, or bustling Keswick for a great selection of outdoor and independent shops. If you are more adventurous, climb some of the best peaks in The Lake District.  The Lake District Wildlife Park at Bassenthwaite is a fun day out for families and is less than a 20 minute drive away from Castlegate House.
