Hayton is a lovely rural village, perfect for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle but still be within a short drive of both the picturesque Solway Coast, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and the world Heritage Lake District National Park. Head to nearby Allonby, less than a 10-minute drive away, and take a walk along the pebble and sandy beaches here. The wide open vistas and views across the water towards Scotland are sure to blow the cobwebs away! If golf is your bag there are three local clubs including Silloth, one of the top courses in the UK, along with Maryport and Aspatria golf clubs. The Solway Coast is well known for its beautiful sunsets so why not make a flask of hot chocolate and enjoy the view? There are plenty of cycle paths stretching along the coast if you like to explore on two wheels.

Those interested in maritime history should head to the harbour towns of Maryport and Whitehaven, or spend a day in the border city of Carlisle where you can learn all about the area's Roman heritage at the fantastic Tullie House Museum or even visit nearby Hadrian's Wall. For those who'd prefer to indulge in a bit of retail therapy, head to the Georgian market town of Cockermouth with its numerous independent shops, three supermarkets and the National Trust-owned ancestral home of William Wordsworth, or bustling Keswick for a great selection of outdoor and independent shops. If you are more adventurous, climb some of the best peaks in The Lake District. The Lake District Wildlife Park at Bassenthwaite is a fun day out for families and is less than a 20-minute drive away from Castlegate House.

A warm welcome to this spacious, detached property, which has been totally refurbished to a high standard and now provides wonderful accommodation for up to eight people. Three dogs are welcome too, as long as they remain downstairs and off the furniture.

The welcoming hallway is the ideal place to leave coats and boots before continuing through to the lovely living room. Spacious and bright, this is the perfect room for unwinding after a day out exploring. Relax on one of the three comfy sofas. There's a Smart TV with Netflix for entertainment or why not catch up with a good book?

The modern dining kitchen is well equipped with everything you'd need for a self-catering holiday. There's an electric oven and separate hob, built-in microwave and a dishwasher so there's no need to fight over who has to do the washing up! The stylish island unit is sure to be a hit with the cooks in the group as there's plenty of space for food preparation. The dining table is positioned in front of the French doors to make the most of the lovely view out over the garden and to the Solway Firth and Scotland beyond.

A handy utility room houses a washing machine and tumble dryer along with a second fridge/freezer in case you fill the first one in the kitchen. A separate cloakroom completes the ground floor.
