Yesterday I took a trip to Bluebell Heaven! I visited Muncaster Castle and Gardens in Cumbria and took a walk through Bluebell Wood to see the spectacular carpet of bluebells lining the forest floor.
The rain was pouring down but this only made the flowers more beautiful as their petals and leaves glistened with the rain drops, contrasting beautifully against the springtime green of the trees. This is the best time of year to see the Bluebells and I promise it's worth the trip whatever the weather!
Whenever I walk amongst the bluebells at Muncaster, I picture myself writing a book about the fairies that live amongst the flowers and all the magic in the forest. Enid Blyton fans will love it here!
There are so many wonderful spots to enjoy a picnic along the trail through the woods, I didn't have the kids with me yesterday but I know they wuld have loved running around the forest floor exploring the flowers or climbing the trees while I relaxed with my sandwiches and a book amongst the flowers. I followed the route right through Bluebell wood and eventually came out at the Wildflower Meadow by the Castle.
The bluebells are at their very best in May and June so I recommend visiting Muncaster while they are in season. Click here to view all of our holiday cottages in Ravenglass, the perfect base for Muncaster Castle.
