- We arrived to find a lovely clean cottage with beautiful views from all windows, in a perfect village, with a great little shop and 3 pubs! We especially liked the Coledale Inn. We had Christmas and looked into rebooking the same weeks for 2020-2021, texting the owner as to weather we could come on the Sunday before Chistmas. We lit a fire in the evening to make the cosy living room even more so, although this added up to about £25 on logs and coal over the 2 weeks. Even with the open fire the house is very cold. The heating is controlled by the owner via the internet and the spare bedrooms were not heated. We did ask for the heating in the twin bedroom to be switched on to the same as the main bedroom, which was done. However this was set at only around 17 deg C and the room never warmed up. We had laid out our clothes in there, and with little hanging space, we intended to use this as a dressing room with its full length mirror. As the owners were on holiday themselves it felt very awkward to keep texting requests. Between the heating "on time periods" morning and evening, with the exception of the living room and kitchen, the heating is turned down/off to 7.5 deg C. Returning home late afternoon found the house very cold and almost inpossible to have a shower before going to the pub. We feel the house during winter should be heated to a reasonable level and boostable by the tenant when required. Obviously the owner can monitor it if they wish, but it is not right that you have to ask for heating and wait for the delay of it to heat up. We paid for a 5 person house, received no 2 person discount so all rooms should be heated weather we use them or not. The rush of cold air when a door was opened, had to felt to be believed. In nearly 20 years coming to Keswick for Christmas and New Year, we have rented similar sized property for less and never had an issue with heating at any time. This would have been the perfect cottage to return to year after year, sadly this is not to be. This would have been a 10 out of 10 cottage if not for the crazy heating situation.

Hi Graham, thank your leaving your review for Aquarius. It really is a lovely property in an even lovelier village and I'm glad that you had such an enjoyable time. I am sorry you found the fuel for the stove expensive, there is spare wood in the bike shed that you were welcome to, as well as two portable heaters in the property. I have spoken to the owner regarding the heating issues, and they've apologised if you felt you weren't comfortable. They're still getting to grips with a relatively new heating system, and working out the best programmes to ensure the comfort of all guests. They have taken your feedback on board and will be making improvements to make sure that Aquarius is warm and welcoming for all, at all times of the year. I do hope that you're able to return to the Lakes for Christmas 2020 and please let me know if you need any assistance in finding your perfect property, I'll be happy to help!
