We arrived to find a lovely clean cottage with beautiful views from all windows, in a perfect village, with a great little shop and 3 pubs! We especially liked the Coledale Inn. We had Christmas and looked into rebooking the same weeks for 2020-2021, texting the owner as to weather we could come on the Sunday before Chistmas. We lit a fire in the evening to make the cosy living room even more so, although this added up to about £25 on logs and coal over the 2 weeks. Even with the open fire the house is very cold. The heating is controlled by the owner via the internet and the spare bedrooms were not heated. We did ask for the heating in the twin bedroom to be switched on to the same as the main bedroom, which was done. However this was set at only around 17 deg C and the room never warmed up. We had laid out our clothes in there, and with little hanging space, we intended to use this as a dressing room with its full length mirror. As the owners were on holiday themselves it felt very awkward to keep texting requests. Between the heating "on time periods" morning and evening, with the exception of the living room and kitchen, the heating is turned down/off to 7.5 deg C. Returning home late afternoon found the house very cold and almost inpossible to have a shower before going to the pub. We feel the house during winter should be heated to a reasonable level and boostable by the tenant when required. Obviously the owner can monitor it if they wish, but it is not right that you have to ask for heating and wait for the delay of it to heat up. We paid for a 5 person house, received no 2 person discount so all rooms should be heated weather we use them or not. The rush of cold air when a door was opened, had to felt to be believed. In nearly 20 years coming to Keswick for Christmas and New Year, we have rented similar sized property for less and never had an issue with heating at any time. This would have been the perfect cottage to return to year after year, sadly this is not to be. This would have been a 10 out of 10 cottage if not for the crazy heating situation.

Hi Graham, thank your leaving your review for Aquarius. It really is a lovely property in an even lovelier village and I'm glad that you had such an enjoyable time. I am sorry you found the fuel for the stove expensive, there is spare wood in the bike shed that you were welcome to, as well as two portable heaters in the property. I have spoken to the owner regarding the heating issues, and they've apologised if you felt you weren't comfortable. They're still getting to grips with a relatively new heating system, and working out the best programmes to ensure the comfort of all guests. They have taken your feedback on board and will be making improvements to make sure that Aquarius is warm and welcoming for all, at all times of the year. I do hope that you're able to return to the Lakes for Christmas 2020 and please let me know if you need any assistance in finding your perfect property, I'll be happy to help!

We had an enjoyable holiday at Aquarius. The garden was lovely and the views were superb from all windows. I just wished it had been warm enough to sit on the huge patio outside and soak up the views. Often I stood drinking my tea looking out of the windows at the birds in the large garden. The house was well equipped with a washing machine, dishwasher and fridge freezer. There were lots of little useful extras in the cupboards like tea bags and spices and i'd say we felt it was a home from home cottage- if you wanted something then you could find it. The decor was very homey and comfy with a lovely sofa, new carpets, a new kitchen and warm blankets. Coal and logs were provided for the fire and the owners had left us a bottle of wine which was a nice touch. There was ample parking for 3 cars. We found the downstairs space a little tight for 3 adults and 2 children however upstairs there was ample space. The new heating system warmed up the rooms well but is controlled remotely by the owners. This meant we had to ask for the heating to be on in addition to the set times. This might not be a problem for some but I did not like having to do this. I must stress though, that every time I text to ask for it to be put on, it was, we did speak and amend the set timings during our stay and the owners also kept an eye on the weather and informed us, making adjustments as it got colder during our week. The location is superb. There is a fabulous, friendly, village shop and 3 smashing pubs in the village, two cafes and a dining hotel. There are many walks from the door (Barrow, Outerside, Causey Pike, Grisedale Pike, Coledale Round etc) and a pushchair friendly walk along to Force Crag Mine. Whinlatter Forest is a 5 min drive away and the Lake District Wildlife Park was 10 mins away, which both have a host of activities available. The neighbours were very friendly too and helped us with some recycling.

Hello L, Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. It's a gem of a cottage isn't it? The views are out of this world - so mesmerising! The owners' are fabulous and really do think of everything to ensure guests have a home from home experience. How wonderful to be left a welcome bottle of wine - chin-chin! You couldn't have picked a better location for amenities and getting out and about on some great walks. I'm delighted you had the opportunity to meet the lovely neighbours too. I have noted your feedback regarding the heating and I will look into this further. I'm thrilled you had a really great stay and I very much hope you will plan a return visit to the beautiful Lakes very soon.

Brilliant location for walking and access to northern lakes with parking for 2 cars. Comfy beds but cottage a bit snug for more than 3 adults, especially the bathroom. Well equipped generally. Off putting stains on furniture and throws. Rather chilly and damp, but we did have very high winds and driving rain. Could do with a boot room for drying out.

Hi Jo, thank you for taking the time to leave some feedback. I'm glad you enjoyed your break. The location is perfect for heading out exploring isn't it? I hope you enjoyed some good walks. I really appreciate your feedback and suggestions. The owners are in the process of replacing the heating system and installing broadband as part of their ongoing improvements to the cottage. I hope you can come back to explore more of the Lakes soon.
