General Introduction
Darling How is a wonderful large Georgian farmhouse with fantastic views of the Lakeland fells. It is ideally situated on Whinlatter Pass giving access to hundreds of walks and bike trails right from the front door. This enviable position is also perfect for exploring the Keswick area as well as the beautiful Buttermere valley. The house has been renovated to a high standard and is an ideal place for large family gatherings and celebrations.
The walking in the area is second to none, there are the surrounding fells of Lord's Seat and Broom Fell and the higher peaks of Hopegill Head and Grisedale, beautiful forest walks with fantastic waterfalls and the lakeshore paths of Crummock Water, Buttermere, Loweswater and Derwentwater. The visitor centre at Whinlatter is a couple of miles away and has café, bike hire and high ropes course (Go Ape), as well as a live video camera in the Osprey nest (May-August).
Keswick is just 15 minutes drive away with its bustling town centre, boating on the lake and outdoor activities; there is something for everyone. Cockermouth is also close by (10 mins) with Wordsworth's House and the Jennings Brewery definitely worth a visit.
For groceries there is a Sainsbury’s in Cockermouth or a Booths in Keswick. For meals out there are a couple of pubs in the village of Braithwaite (5-10 mins) and a lovely pub in Lorton called the Wheatsheaf which does great food (5 mins) and for a special occasions there is Winder Hall also in Lorton (5 mins) and the excellent restaurant at The Cottage in the Wood (just past the visitors centre - 5 mins).
